The teaching, research and innovation activities within the UCD School of Mechanical and Materials Engineering involve a continually changing and a wide variety of customised equipment, components and experimental systems.The post of Technical Officer will be based in both the Materials Mechanical Testing Areas and Manufacturing workshop and will work (in consultation) with staff, postgraduate and undergraduate students in materials testing and, in the design, construction, installation and repair of mechanical equipment and apparatus and related machinery, and in various other associated support activities, as required.

The post-holder will also manufacture routine and bespoke items of equipment for both research and teaching laboratories. The workshop is equipped with lathes, CNC milling machines, CNC Lathe, EDM, TIG, MIG, MMA, Guillotines, Drilling Machines, Benders, Band Saws, Grinding Wheels, and Welding Equipment. The successful candidate will have significant industrial experience of materials testing and in the use of CNC milling machines, CNC lathes and EDM processing.

When required, the Mechanical and Electronics Workshops work closely together to design and develop complex solutions for experimental researchers. Experience of other equipment that exists within the workshop and significant industrial experience with a formal qualification as a Toolmaker or Fitter/Turner will be an advantage.

95 Technical Officer\2013 (7915) Salary Scale: €43,720 – €57,636 Per Annum
Appointment will be made on scale and in accordance with the Department of Finance guidelines
