Learn more atWe are seeking a dynamic and experienced Director, Strategic Alliances Leader, to act as a pivotal liaison between our internal campus Research & Development (R&D), manufacturing teams and the external Belgium Life Sciences ecosystem. This role will be crucial in developing and implementing our alliances strategy within the Belgian market!Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary liaison between the internal campus R&D and manufacturing community and external partners in the Belgium Life Sciences ecosystem, ensuring flawless communication and alignment on strategic initiatives.
- Represent the JNJ campus to external scientific partners, acting as a trusted counterpart while demonstrating in-depth knowledge of our ecosystem, the drug life cycle, and scientific insights relevant to our Therapeutic Areas, Supply Chain, and Discovery and Development Platforms.
- Interact with C-level executives and key decision-makers at universities and hospitals to cultivate relationships and find opportunities for collaboration, ensuring all projects align with objectives and deliver value!
- Leverage strong Project Management Office (PMO) capabilities to actively manage ongoing project interactions and establish new partnerships with both internal (R&D, manufacturing) and external partners. Build and nurture strategic alliances with large universities, reference hospitals, research institutes, knowledge organizations, cluster organizations, and companies, focused on creating a collaborative environment for long-term cooperation in areas such as Innovation, Talent, and Sustainability.
- Develop and implement comprehensive strategic plans to shape the Belgium innovation ecosystem, enhance valorization efficiency, and ensure the success of initiatives relevant to Johnson & Johnson, including the Clinical Trial Network and various data initiatives.
- Supervise and report on project progress, ensuring that project milestones are met and outcomes are aligned with organizational goals. Apply PMO methodologies to provide insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
- Represent Johnson & Johnson in advisory boards and working groups of various trade and networking associations, establishing the company as an inspiring leader in the life sciences ecosystem.
You will report directly to the COO JNJ campus Belgium & Head of Strategic Partnerships, providing updates on project status, partner engagement, and strategic opportunities.This position emphasizes the importance of strong Alliance Leadership skills in developing impactful collaborations within the regional ecosystem and advancing innovative healthcare solutions.QualificationsQualificationsEducation:The candidate has an advanced degree in a relevant scientific or business area (e.g., PhD, MBA) in life sciences or equivalent, with several years of proven experience in project coordination/management and/or business developmentAreas of specialist knowledge
- Strategic alliance management and project management within the life sciences sector, with a strong understanding of the drug development process
- Demonstrable experience in leading PMO functions, including project planning, execution, monitoring, and stakeholder management
- Knowledge in multiple science and technology domains that are relevant to the discovery, development and approval of therapeutic assets, any kind of molecular platform
- Knowledge and experience with the discovery, non-clinical and early clinical development process of pharmaceuticals
- A track record of successfully shaping and driving strategic partnerships and initiatives within complex ecosystems
- Knowledge of the innovation strategies and priorities of J&J Pharma (and MedTech), and a broad J&J-internal network in R&D (or ability to quickly develop these)
- Business sense: understand principles and process of knowledge valorisation, venture funding and start-up creation.

- Excellent relationship leadership skills, with a consistent track record of effectively engaging with C-level executives and key decision-makers
- Proactive and proficient in initiating new contacts, maintaining and activating internal and external networks, and clearly communicating input/feedback to external prospects and other external and internal partners
- Ability to see risks and opportunities: curious and critical-analytical attitude, with attention to detail but not lose sight of the big picture
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to use data to drive decision-making and improve project outcomes
- Self-starter: ability to conceptualize, initiate and implement work without significant direction or supervision
- Effective ambassador for J&J/Janssen and of BioTech & MedTech in general.
Other:Proficiency in Dutch and English reading, speaking and writing is a must. French is a plus.You will be based in Beerse, Belgium, and local/regional travel will be part of the job.
