LHI STORYTELLER (remote position)

Overview:
Lifting Hands International is a quickly-growing nonprofit organization with a humanitarian mission to provide aid to refugees at home and abroad. No politics, simply humanitarian. Founded in 2016, we have consistently proven to be effective at providing short-term assistance and long-term solutions where the needs are greatest. We are now seeking a qualified, capable, and hard-working storyteller for our team. This is not a marketing position, this is a storytelling position. LHI is looking for a natural storyteller who understands the nuances of humanitarianism. This person will work closely with the content team, but primarily support the Communications Director , developing a host of written content from blog articles to video descriptions on social media.

The intention behind the position is to honor peoples’ stories, not to promote the organization. LHI has a unique voice in the humanitarian world because our org is distinctly focused on empowerment and preserving human dignity. The way we approach our work is in parallel with how we talk about people.

Responsibilities
● Develop, pitch, and write blog articles that explore the lives of LHI beneficiaries, current events,
and the incredible teams we work with around the world
● Schedule and write social media posts for Facebook, Instagram, Youtube, TikTok, and LinkedIn
● Follow up with field teams on stories for additional context
● Interview team members for stories and content
● Monitor news/current events to keep LHI content aligned with coverage
● Write press releases
● Write content for the Annual Report

Key knowledge and skills
● Strong creative writing skills and storytelling instincts
● Basic understanding of ethical guidelines for privacy and confidentiality
● Skills in active listening and compassionate response
● Basic understanding of the trauma-informed approach to working with people who have
experienced trauma
● Ability to adapt to LHI’s voice

● Good with generative, constructive feedback
● Rich knowledge about social media and trends
● Strong organizational and planning skills. Familiarity with Monday.com a plus

Qualifications (Relevant undergraduate and graduate degrees are a plus)
● Should have a permanent address in the United States
● Ability to work independently without close oversight (this is a remote position), and also a team player who will productively engage a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
● Demonstrated commitment to professional improvement in the field of content creation
● High energy, strong organizational skills, and passion for LHI’s mission is essential
● Background in journalism a plus

Salary & Benefits
This is a part-time position $20 an hour with a 10% raise after 12 months, plus 1% COLAs every 6 months. Benefits include 10 PTO days (half of our starting PTO for full time) and 14 floating holidays, along with a 401k match (up to 3%)
