Role: Staff Engineer – Customer R&DAbout our client:Azon are thrilled to be partnered with a well-known manufacturing company based in South Dublin for the recruitment on a full-time permanent Research & Design Staff Engineer. The successful candidate will play an important, technical, and management role on a diverse and multifaceted team in creating, developing, implementing, verifying, and validating several wearable body products. Additionally, this role will allow the candidate to design and develop wearable drug delivery systems which will enable patient independence and improve patient outcomes.Location: South DublinAbout the Role:

  • Collaborate as a key technical liaison with a pharmaceutical partner in a B2B product development venture, representing the organization within a team.
  • Lead the development of innovative, cutting-edge solutions for advanced drug delivery as a technical lead within a cross-functional project team, guiding the project from inception to launch.
  • Transform business needs into a robust and scalable technical blueprint.
  • Tackle intricate challenges using sound engineering principles, employing experimental, computational, and analytical methods across various technical product development obstacles, ranging from simple components to complex device assemblies.
  • Collaborate closely with functional teams and project managers to identify and mitigate technical hurdles, reducing potential risks.
  • Enhance product development efficiency and quality by implementing DFSS and Lean Product Development Tools.
  • Create and steer technical methodologies to achieve product objectives.
  • Collaborate within an R&D team, implementing optimal design practices, analysis, simulation, and verification for subsystems and systems.

Technical Leadership Skills:

  • Act as the R&D representative among QA, Medical Affairs, Regulatory Affairs, Marketing, and Manufacturing teams, fostering effective communication and involvement.
  • Mentor and inspire team members and junior associates, coaching them through various activities such as bench studies, analysis, risk assessments, design validation, vendor interactions, and material/component specifications.
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal skills to build client trust and mentor junior engineers effectively.
  • Implement and advocate DFSS best practices across all projects.
  • Embrace agility in learning, managing risk, and taking decisive action.
  • Articulate concepts, ideas, and knowledge clearly and effectively to individuals, teams, and customers.
  • Ensure adherence to quality policies, procedures, local/state/federal regulations, and safety laws and protocols.

About You:

  • BSc in Engineering or a related technical field; a postgraduate qualification is preferred.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in medical device development, emphasizing wearable infusion pumps, large volume injection devices, or similar technologies.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including experience in engaging with customers and diverse internal/external stakeholders.
  • Extensive expertise in selecting, designing, and commercializing parenteral drug delivery devices within the Biotech industry.
  • Proven track record of executing complex system designs, particularly in the medical device realm, involving mechanical subsystems.
  • Ability to lead engineering teams spanning multiple disciplines.
  • Proficiency in contemporary CAD, CAE, and other design/simulation tools.
