Minimum qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• 2 years of experience with data structures/algorithms and software development in one or more programming languages.

Preferred qualifications:

• 2 years of experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.

• Experience with debugging, optimizing code and automation.

• Experience with database systems and query language design and optimization.

• Demonstrated systematic problem-solving approach, coupled with sense of ownership and drive.

• Effective communication skills in a globally distributed team structure.

Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault-tolerant systems. SRE ensures that Google Cloud’s services—both our internally critical and our externally-visible systems—have reliability, uptime appropriate to customer’s needs and a fast rate of improvement. Additionally SRE’s will keep an ever-watchful eye on our systems capacity and performance.

Much of our software development focuses on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure and eliminating work through automation. On the SRE team, you’ll have the opportunity to manage the complex challenges of scale which are unique to Google Cloud, while using your expertise in coding, algorithms, complexity analysis and large-scale system design. You will be responsible for the reliability and deployment of the F1 service offering in Google that supports all of our businesses. Our main focus is to enable these services to grow their footprint and number of active users across Google, both internal and external, with scale in mind.

• Identify opportunities, design and lead the implementation of solutions to enhance the reliability of systems that support F1.

• Scale systems sustainably through mechanisms like automation, and evolve systems by pushing for changes that improve reliability and velocity.

• Collaborate across multiple teams to provide in-team leadership for Google wide efforts, and to drive the adoption of solutions that improve reliability for multiple teams.

• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues in our services, as part of a Tier 1 (5 minute response) oncall rotation.

• Engage in software engineering on services written in Java, C++, and Go (including instrumenting client software development kit(SDKs), server-side performance changes, capacity planning, experiments, monitoring, and more), and performance enhancement of existing systems.
