St. Joseph’s Foundation is a voluntary organisation providing comprehensive services for people with intellectual disabilities. Founded in 1968 the Foundation has grown through continuously responding to the needs of people with intellectual disabilities and their families.The Foundation provides services to children and adults, through day services, residential, respite care, and home support in the North Cork and South West Limerick region. We have day and residential services in various locations in the North Cork and South Limerick area; such as Charleville, Dromina, Newtownshandrum, Buttevant, Newmarket, Mitchelstown and Mallow, in Limerick; Ballylanders, , Ballyagran, Bruree, Bruff Croom Dromcollogher, Granagh Kilmallock, and Liskennett.Applications are invited for the following posts:SOCIAL CARE WORKERSPermanent Posts Full time, Part timeThe ideal candidates will have:-

  • A HETAC Accredited Diploma/Degree in Social Care or a qualification in Nursing (RNID) or a candidate must be eligible for registration under the standards of proficiency for CORU registration ( care workers)
  • Experience in managing behaviour which challenges.
  • Experience with adults/children with intellectual disabilities.
  • The ability to work on his/her own initiative and supervise service users/staff in a residential setting.
  • Full Driver’s Licence

Informal enquiries to HR Team – 063-89252.REPORTING TO: Person in Charge/Residential Area Manager/Children’s Disability Network Manager/Head of Discipline as relevantLIAISE WITH: Residents and Staff in Adults/Children’s Services, Multidisciplinary Team and Parents & Families.LOCATION: Adult Residential centres in St. Joseph’s Foundation in accordance with the rosters operated by the service.HOURLY COMMITMENT: As per contract. Rostered duties , 12 hour shifts, days/ night shift, weekends and weekdays.MAIN DUTIES

  • Care for the day to day needs of the residents in compliance with the Health Care Act 2007 (Care and support of residents in designated centres for persons (Children and Adults) with disabilities) regulations 2013 and the Provision of the Childcare Act 1991 and all relevant regulations and standards that apply to Children in care.
  • To establish and maintain relationships with the residents which are based on respect and equality and promote their independence. • Physical care – helping those that require assistance in such tasks as dressing, washing, etc.
  • Teaching daily living & social skills to the residents
  • Assist residents with budgeting, banking and management of their personal finances ensuring individual’s monies are accounted for and recorded as appropriate.
  • Facilitating residents to use their leisure time tailored to their needs, with an emphasis on community integration.
  • Housekeeping – cooking, shopping, cleaning, looking after each resident’s clothes and effects and maintaining a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness within the residence. As far as possible the residents will be encouraged to partake in these activities.
  • To administer and record prescribed medication to residents.
  • Foster integration and provide social opportunities for residents within the local community in line with the Foundation’s philosophy.
  • Ensure that day/residence areas are kept safe and tidy.
  • Under the direction of the Person in Charge, the Social Care Worker will be responsible for purchasing and budgeting household monies and making purchases locally where possible.
  • To keep records and reports as deemed necessary by the Foundation.
  • To foster a spirit of welcome to all who come to visit e.g. parents, families, neighbours and guests.
  • To be an active member of the residential team and attend meetings/case conferences etc. as required.
  • In the course of your employment, you may have access to or hear information concerning the medical or personal affairs of residents or staff or other centres business. Such records and information are strictly confidential. In addition, records must never be left in such a manner that unauthorised persons can obtain access to them.

LEADERSHIP

  • Under the direction of the Person in Charge, the Social Care Worker will manage, develop and support staff individually and as a team including induction, supervisory support and training in line with Foundation’s practices and the Health Care Act 2007 (Care and support of residents in designated centres for persons (Children and Adults) with disabilities) regulations 2013 and the Provision of the Childcare Act 1991 and all relevant regulations and standards that apply to Children in care as and when required.
  • To take an active role in the co-ordination and development of individual plans in order to meet the needs of the people we support.
  • Hold supervision meeting with support staff as directed by the PIC.
  • To carry out goal setting and development with support staff.
  • Ensure that staffs are aware of and adhere to Foundations Policies and Procedures.
  • To develop and maintain effective communication systems both formal and informal with residents, colleagues, families and stakeholders.
  • Promote dignity at work and show respect to residents, colleagues, families and stakeholders in course of duty.
  • To ensure that staff establish and maintain relationships with the residents which are based on respect and equality and promote their independence.
  • To embrace advocacy in the delivery of person centred care.
  • To ensure that complaints received are dealt with in accordance with the Foundation’s complaints policy.
