About SYCAC
SYCAC is a non-profit, non-governmental civil society organization established in Turkey in 2012. It aims to increase civic spaces to play an active role in peace processes and early recovery of communities by empowering, protecting, and building community capacities, as well as enhancing the leadership role of women and marginalized groups, to achieve communities that embrace the principle of democracy and human rights.
Job purpose
Job Purpose: To facilitate seamless communication between Turkish and English-speaking participants during SYCAC’s one-day workshop in Gaziantep on October 22. The interpreter will provide real-time translation between Turkish and English to ensure that key stakeholders—such as representatives from the business sector, municipalities, chambers of commerce, NGOs, and both refugee and host communities—can actively participate in discussions regarding the impact of the business sector on integration and social ties. By enabling clear communication, the interpreter will contribute to the success of the event, fostering understanding and collaboration between diverse participants.
Key Responsibilities
- Simultaneous Interpretation: Provide real-time interpretation between Turkish and English during all workshop sessions, ensuring smooth and accurate communication between participants.
- Ensure Cultural Sensitivity: Maintain a high level of cultural awareness and sensitivity to both Turkish and Syrian community norms while interpreting, to facilitate respectful and meaningful exchanges.
- Accurate and Clear Communication: Ensure that all technical, economic, and social concepts discussed during the workshop are accurately interpreted, maintaining the meaning and context of the original language.
- Adapt to Various Formats: Be prepared to interpret in both formal presentations and informal networking.
Required Qualifications
- Fluency in Turkish and English: Native or near-native proficiency in both Turkish and English, with excellent verbal communication skills in both languages.
- Proven Experience in Interpretation: At least [3] years of experience in professional interpretation, with a strong background in simultaneous or consecutive interpreting, preferably in workshop, business, or community settings.
- Familiarity with Social Integration and Business Terminology: Knowledge of relevant terms and concepts related to social integration, entrepreneurship, and economic development, especially in the context of refugees and host communities.
- Cultural Competency: Strong understanding of the cultural nuances of both Turkish and Syrian communities to ensure respectful and accurate communication.
- Flexibility and Adaptability: Capacity to manage real-time interpretation in a dynamic environment with varying levels of formality, from structured presentations to open discussions.
- Attention to Detail: Precision in interpreting technical language and complex discussions, ensuring the accuracy and clarity of translated content.
- Professionalism and Confidentiality: Commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and confidentiality throughout the workshop.
