We are looking for a Senior Scientist with expertise in dry powder characterization to join an ambitious and dynamic team. You will be part of the Advanced Materials Characterization and Investigations (AMCI) group within Analytical Development at our pharmaceutical site in Beerse, Belgium!The AMCI group supports the development and commercial lifecycle of pharmaceutical products by:

  • Performing advanced analytical characterization of pharmaceutical products.
  • Leading global analytical investigations for the commercial product portfolio.
  • Supporting the Discovery, Product Development & Supply (DPDS) organization.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct in-depth characterization of particle and powder properties for active ingredients, excipients, drug product intermediates, and solid dosage forms.
  • Perform particle size/shape determination and flowability assessments.
  • Design, set up, and execute experiments in the lab, ensuring integration of results to meet project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with API and Drug Product teams to enhance product development.
  • Continuously evaluate analytical characterization strategies to optimize support for CMC development.
  • Contribute to internal innovation projects by assessing novel characterization techniques and modeling.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, GMP, and safety standards.
  • Stay up to date with the latest scientific advancements in pharmaceutical analysis.

Your Profile

  • PhD in Chemical (Bio)Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Physics, or equivalent by experience.
  • Expertise in particle sizing technologies such as Laser Diffraction and Microscopy (Image Analysis).
  • Strong understanding of the relationship between particle properties, bulk behavior, and processability.
  • Solid knowledge of powder characterization techniques such as powder flow, shear testing, triboelectrification properties, etc.
  • Familiarity with statistical methodologies like PCA/PLS.
  • Experience in crystallization, pharmaceutical formulation, or process development is a plus.
  • Strong project management and communication skills (oral and written).
  • A team player, able to work effectively in a global matrix organization.
  • Fluent in English (both spoken and written).
