You develop and apply innovative GC methodologies for the identification and quantification of a broad range of molecules (from very volatile to nonvolatile compounds) in various complex matrices (food and beverages, air, water, soil, polymers, biological fluids and tissues, etc)
You handle complex and scientifically challenging projects for our industrial (chemistry, environmental, food, pharma, etc.) and academic partners
You organize and plan resources and equipment within self-determined timelines
You design and plan experiments, process experimental data, capture findings in reports and communicate with customers (both orally and written)
You provide regular updates to customers on project processes and the way forward
You write high-level reports and papers
You drive project continuation and trigger subsequent projects
You coach team members and help them with experimental setups and ensure adequate reporting to the high company standard
You interact with other scientists and team members to ensure proper project planning and execution
You align with our management and our commercial team on strategic choices
You ensure close collaboration with equipment vendors in order to influence product development
You keep up to date with current developments in the field of gas chromatography in general, identify trends and help shape the future of GC

Profiel
Talented science lover with a passion for analytical chemistry
Big fan of A.J.P. Martin, M.Golay, F. McLafferty, and other gas chromatography and mass spectrometry rockstars
In-depth theoretical and practical knowledge of GC covering various application domains (food, cosmetics, environmental, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, biotech, etc)
Proven GC method development skills using different injection modes (split, splitless, cool on column and PTV)
Experienced in sample preparation for volatiles based on headspace extraction (including static, dynamic, solid phase microextraction with stir bar sorptive extraction as a plus) and nonvolatile molecules (liquid extraction, SPE, derivatization, thermal desorption and pyrolysis)
Knowledge of heart-cutting and comprehensive GC
First-hand experience with detection techniques including FID, NPD, FPD and mass spectrometry (SQ, QQQ and TOF)
Acquainted with GC data processing (targeted and non-targeted) using vendor or other software packages
Demonstrated innovative attitude and out-of-the box thinking
Master of new techniques and developments
Critical mindset and good sense for initiative and attention to quality and detail
Team player, customer-minded, problem-solving mindset and flexible attitude
Great communicator with excellent writing/reporting skills
Able to multitask and tackle complex scientific questions in an independent manner
Comfortable interacting with customers (discussing requests, negotiating scope, presenting results)
Fluent in English (written & oral), Dutch and French is a plus
Ph.D. in chemistry, biochemistry, pharmacy or equivalent qualification due to experience
