Job description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Polymer Expert to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive knowledge and expertise in polymer chemistry, materials science, and polymer processing technologies. They will be responsible for leading research and development projects, providing technical guidance and support, and driving innovation in polymer materials and processes.Responsibilities

  • Assess polymer materials for thermoforming suitability based on properties such as melt flow behaviours, crystallinity, thermal stability, and impact resistance.
  • Collaborate with suppliers to source and qualify new materials, ensuring they meet performance and cost targets.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on polymer-related issues to interdisciplinary teams and project stakeholders within the company.
  • Design and project manage trials to evaluate the performance and properties of various polymer sheet materials. These trials would happen on the company thermoforming equipment.
  • Stay current with advancements in thermoformable materials through literature review, conference attendance, and collaboration with external partners.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to support product development, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Stay abreast of industry developments and emerging technologies in thermoforming and polymer science to continually enhance expertise.
  • Represent the company’s technical voice by leading technical discussions with customers on new developments.
  • Ensure proper documentation of work and contribute to the knowledge library – do not reinvent what has been invented elsewhere.
  • Provide expertise and share knowledge in order to advance capability across the organisation.
  • The successful candidate will possess the following key attributes:
  • The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of polymer behaviours, material properties, and thermoforming technologies to ensure efficient production and high-quality products.
  • Collaborative Relationships and Influence Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and standards for polymer materials in relevant industries (e.g., automotive, aerospace, medical devices) is a plus.

  • Syspro/Excel/Sage Experience

Qualification & Experience Requirements:

  • PhD with 3+ years of experience or a Graduate/Bachelor’s degree with 7+ years of experience. Polymer science, materials science or equivalent
