Senior Product Consultant will serve as a specialist for the Hydraulic Mining Shovel (HMS) product value and applications, where decisions and recommendations contribute to the division’s business goals and long-term market share. This position will provide customer recommendations into the New Product Introduction (NPI) process and participate as Resource Industry (RI) commercial representative on the Product Group’s NPI team. Specifically, the role is responsible for developing global product critical customer requirements and product functional specifications for input to the Global Product Group’s NPI programs. This position also supports go-to-market initiatives, value selling training and sales support as a subject matter expert.

This position is recognized as an expert in HMS business segment and associated applications. This role is a key interface between the Product Group and Cat Regional Sales Teams. You will provide direction for future product and industry needs and shares this expertise at higher industry levels with business unit management.

What you will do:

Provides Commercial Support:

• Identify product commercial issues and develop strategies to overcome them globally.

• Benchmark top competitors to determine strengths, weaknesses, and key product gaps.

• Make market-driven recommendations on the Percent of Industry Sales (PINs), units and growth strategies.

• Support the development of defined marketing programs to achieve plan for machine unit & volume targets, PINS objectives and net price realization globally.

• Be the Global Voice of Market input to the Global Product Value Stream Manager and NPI Gate Review process.

• Lead global product initiatives for financial improvement, price/value assessments and recommendations.

• Responsible for Product family (and model level) alignment between forecasting, Gate Review Commitments (volumes, PINs, Price), Price Plans, S&OP, Sales Variance targets, OPACC goals and provide clarity in communications to the Product Design Team.

• Develops go to market plans and priorities, pricing strategies, customer loyalty improvement projects and global forecast coordination. Will be the main communication link on these subjects to the Global Product Leadership with the goal of maximizing profit and PINs.

• Be the “Go to person” for issues related to achieving sales plan (Pricing, Product, availability, coverage).

• Manage compliance assignments and keep up to date with new industry trends, changing technology and regulations affecting the competitive environment.

• Provide product application and pricing expertise at point of sale and deliver various types of product value training to customers and dealers’ sales personnel.

• Conduct product performance studies, assess customer job sites efficiency, collecting product and customer requirements in order to capitalize opportunities for incremental sales to create business case for product improvement process and new product introduction program.

• Overseeing PINS trends, industry outlook, demand fluctuation and basic customer requirements.

What Skills you will have:

Technical Excellence: Must possess strong applications experience , life cycle cost knowledge of dealers’ and customers’ application, industry and marketplace need. Demonstrate creativity, good business judgment and outstanding machine application or marketing/distribution knowledge along with the sensitivity to customer financial impact.

Products and Services: Knowledge of Hydraulic Mining Shovel or mining products and services ; ability to apply knowledge of product and service appropriately to diverse situations.

Customer Focus: Knowledge of the values and practices that align customer needs and satisfaction as primary considerations in all business decisions and ability to leverage that information in creating customized customer solutions.

Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

Effective Communications: Must communicate effectively across product, industry, dealer and/or customer audiences to gain understanding and acceptance of ideas and recommendations. Must have ability to work with people from many different backgrounds and cultures, internally and externally, with the appropriate influence and ability to resolve differences.

Negotiating: Knowledge of successful negotiation concepts and techniques; ability to negotiate successfully across the organization and with external vendors and clients in a constructive and collaborative manner.

Relationship Management: Knowledge of relationship management techniques; ability to establish and maintain healthy working relationships with clients, vendors, and peers.

  • Value Selling: Knowledge of the principles and practices for selling products, technology and services; ability to provide overall product/service ‘value’ and to differentiate support offerings that address clearly understood customer needs.

Additional Information:

The primary location for this position is either Brisbane, Newcastle or Perth.

  • This position may require 30% domestic and international travel
