Job DescriptionServisource are hiring for a Senior Medical Scientist Clinical Chemistry on behalf of our client. Our client is a leading private hospital with facilities around Ireland.Key Duties and Responsibilities:In collaboration with the Chief Medical Scientist and/or Laboratory Manager, the post holder will:
- Ensure efficient service delivery by adhering to established standards, policies, and procedures.
- Lead the development and introduction of new methods, equipment, reagents, and consumables, in line with hospital policy.
- Supervise and coordinate scientific and support staff, ensuring optimal allocation of resources based on patient needs, with appropriate delegation.
- Support the implementation of a patient-centered quality management program, including performance audits, client satisfaction, and ISO15189 compliance.
- Manage the registration, custody, and stock levels of laboratory reagents and consumables.
- Stay current with advancements in the field of medical science.
- Investigate incidents, complaints, and equipment issues in accordance with the department’s Quality Management System, and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with laboratory record-keeping policies and assist in the training and education of staff.
- Assist in the development, maintenance, and revision of Standard Operating Procedures, Policies, and Guidelines.
- Ensure adherence to both National and International standards, with active participation in internal and external quality assessments.
- Participate in performance reviews and uphold the Mission and Values of Bon Secours Health System.
- Support the hospital’s efforts to achieve and maintain JCI and ISO15189 accreditation, as well as other relevant diagnostic laboratory standards.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, such as the Blood Directive 2002/98/EC and Medical Devices Directives.
- Complete assigned actions, including addressing non-conformances, change control, and complaints, within the required timeframe.
- Promote a safe working environment by ensuring adherence to health and safety regulations and working practices.
- Assist in developing accident prevention and management procedures in the laboratory.
- Participate in the development of the laboratory information system and contribute to financial reporting, business cases, and cost-benefit analyses for the pathology department.
- Provide leadership and motivation to the team, setting goals aligned with the hospital’s performance review system.
- Support and promote ongoing education and research activities for staff.
- Participate in the execution of the Major Emergency Plan as per Laboratory Management Policy.
- Deputise in the absence of the Chief Medical Scientist.
- Collaborate with the Senior Medical Scientist on Point of Care Testing.
Essential Qualifications:
- Candidates must hold a BSc in Medical Science or Biomedical Science.
- Must also hold a MSc.
- Have 4 years clinical experience medical scientist in a clinical diagnostic laboratory.
- Demonstrate evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
- Must be registered with CORU or eligible for membership upon completion of study or in the process of applying for state registration.
