Learn more at https://www.jnj.com/.Our Chemical Process Research and Development (CPRD) team in Belgium is recruiting a Senior Pilot Plant Engineer.We have three state-of-the-art pilot plants in Beerse and Geel which support the development of new chemical processes and produce Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API’s) mainly used in clinical trials. The APIs we manufacture are sent for further processing through pharmaceutical production into tablets or other formulations.In Beerse, the Chemical Development Mini Plant (CDMP) and the Chemical Development Oligonucleotides Plant (CDOP) are co-located with the chemical development teams. In CDMP, first scale-up experiments of new processes are executed. CDOP is specifically designed to synthesize oligonucleotides.
In Geel, the Chemical Development Pilot Plant (CDPP) is co-located with the Launch & Growth commercial production facilities. This plant is the indispensable link towards the commercial supply chain to deliver robust chemical processes, produce the main volumes for clinical trials and support small volumes of commercial APIs.The pilot plants are constantly innovating their technology and data infrastructure to accommodate for future product and development needs.In this role, the Senior Pilot Plant engineer is responsible for:

• Representing the pilot plants for new product introductions in close collaboration with the Scientific Integrator (SI), chemists and the operational scale-up experts. All plant related aspects of this transfer are covered by the candidate: project management, process safety, product-quality, technical modifications, scale-up effects, training of operational teams, …
• Applying data-analyses techniques & Process Analytical Tools (PAT) to optimize new and existing chemical processes. Deploy digital twin models for online process control & optimization
• Build up technical expertise for specific equipment and act as a subject matter expert in HAZOPs, Process Hazard analyses, audits, …
• Represent the pilot plants in CAPEX projects as user: draft URS, input detailed engineering and qualification requirements, organize and execute start-up of the equipment.

A strong knowledge of both plants is indispensable in the role and will be part of the training plan. Flexibility to work in both locations is needed.

• Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
• A degree (MS/PhD) in chemistry, chemical engineering, bio-engineering or demonstrated experience in chemical operations/development.

Experience And Skills:

• Experience in a chemical development operations environment and strong affinity with technology.
• Excellent organizational and project management skills, capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
• Outspoken interest in data analytics.
• A strong safety, quality, and compliance mindset: understanding of Process Safety Management and cGMP requirements is an asset.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Proven track record of creativity and problem solving. Ability to collaborate with cross functional teams is a must.
