You will create quality products and reports that will influence decision makers and drive the enforcement, prevention and disruption of environmental crime with a specific focus on financial and money laundering investigations. This will also involve working alongside national and area enforcement colleagues.Your work as a Senior Crime Analyst will include:
Supporting complex financial and money laundering investigations from intelligence through to evidential stage.
Preparing evidential products, exhibits and statements and giving evidence at court if required.
Briefing investigators, peers and managers on your analytical findings.
Influencing others and advocating for analysis as well as intelligence led enforcement.
Supporting, coaching and mentoring other Analysts within the Intelligence & Partnerships team.
Feeding into the regional or national Tactical Assessment.You will also be expected to share your experience and knowledge with the wider team. You will use your skills to develop both the analytical and intelligence functions to help the Environment Agency continually improve its response to environmental crime.The teamThe Economic Crime Unit includes an Asset Denial Team and a Money Laundering Investigations Team. The unit works flexibly to focus on using all available Proceeds of Crime Act Powers to disrupt, prevent and investigate environmental crime. You will work alongside Financial Investigators and Financial Intelligence Officers.You would also be part of the existing Analyst community within the Intelligence and Partnerships team. Your professional development would be supported by the Principal Analyst.Experience/skills requiredThis role is for an experienced Crime/Intelligence Analyst; therefore, the following qualifications are essential:Formal intelligence analysis training, such as:

  • National Intelligence Analysis Training (NIAT), replaced by Introduction to Research & Introduction to Analysis.
  • Government Intelligence Analysis Training (GIAT), replaced by PHIA’s New Analyst Programme (NAP).
  • Defence Intelligence Analysis Training (DIAT).
  • Level 4 Intelligence Analysis Apprenticeship, or equivalent training delivered by a recognised Organisation.
  • Entry Level 10-Day CPD Accredited Intelligence Analysis course (RISC)

We are also looking for key skills and personal characteristics:Proven analytical/critical thinking skills.
Excellent communication.
Exceptional report writing.
Excellent presentation skills.
Working collaboratively with internal/external stakeholders.
Demonstrable coaching/mentoring skills.
Innovation around continuous improvement
Strong IT skills including use of Microsoft Office /analytical software, i2 analysts notebook and GIS.Desirable
An awareness/understanding of the Proceeds of Crime Act and analysis of financial data.
Intelligence Professionalisation Programme (IPP) Intelligence Analyst accreditation is desirable.Contact and additional informationThis is a national role, and you can work anywhere in England, but you will need to be assigned to an Environment Agency office as your base location, we currently operate a hybrid way of working between home and office.
Whilst we welcome applications for those requiring part-time and flexible career opportunities, you must be able and willing to work flexibly, in certain circumstances you may be asked to work away from your home base and be expected to travel to meetings and court hearings which could involve overnight stays.
Everyone that joins us is required to undertake training and participate in incident response duties.
