The European Public Health Association (EUPHA) is an umbrella organisation for public health associations and institutes in Europe. EUPHA has 85 members from 47 countries and brings together around 40,000 European public health experts for professional exchange and collaboration. EUPHA is an international, multidisciplinary, scientific organization that encourages a multi-disciplinary approach to public health.
EUPHA is organiser of the annual EPH Conference, the largest and premier scientific conference on public health in Europe and the annual European Public Health Week; During this week we raise awareness about public health and promote collaboration among the public health community in Europe. EUPHA is involved as a partner in several EU-funded research projects, often with tasks related to dissemination and communication activities.

Senior Communications Officer
(Utrecht, 32-36 hours per week)
Your job
As our Senior Communications Officer you are responsible for all communication for both EUPHA and the annual EPH Conference. Together with EUPHA’s Executive Director you update and deliver a strategic communications plan. Your goal is ensuring that key messages are delivered in a consistent and professional way resulting in maintaining EUPHA’s and the EPH Conference’s excellent reputation among (potential) stakeholders and the broader international health community. You report to the Executive Director, work closely with the EPH Conference Coordinator, and are part of EUPHA’s office team in Utrecht, the Netherlands.
Key areas of responsibility
- Together with the Executive Director updating and delivering our multi-year communication strategy in line with EUPHA’s overall mandate and mission.
- Translating the strategy into annual plans, objectives, stakeholders, channels and instruments.
- Translating the strategy to a tailor-made communications plan for the annual EPH Conference.
- Responsible for key organisational publications, such as our annual reports, reviews, opinion pieces, events, stakeholder relations, internal communication, and briefings.
- Effective stakeholder management communication delivering the right content at the right time to EUPHA’s members, subscribers, and external stakeholders.
- Creating content for all online and offline channels, such as monthly newsletters, publications, (project) websites, press releases, initiatives, campaigns and marketing materials.
- Collaborating with external creatives (e.g. graphic designers, photographers, editors) to produce high-quality materials for online and offline publications.
- Monitoring and evaluating all communications, including analysis of media data and provide feedback as to effectiveness.
- Managing mutually beneficial relationships with colleagues across EUPHA (including EUPHA Sections) and the EPH Conference to ensure internal communications reflect the wide range of activity being undertaken.
- In close collaboration with the Executive Director acting as point of contact for enquiries from relevant stakeholders.
Your profile
This all-round communications position requires an interesting mix of strategic thinking and a hands-on mentality. Becoming successful as Senior Communications Officer means you:
- Are enthusiastic about our mission and want to contribute to public health in Europe.
- Are a strategic thinker and able to communicate complex topics on all levels and with tact.
- Have excellent time-management, cross-cultural and interpersonal skills.
- Have outstanding communication and language skills and can easily build rapport with diverse stakeholders.
- Preferably have experience working within an international or NGO setting.
- Have a master’s degree in communications and significant relevant experience as an all-round communications professional.
