Job description

PositionWe are looking for a skilled professional to contribute to advancements in mobile robotics, focusing on perception and autonomous navigation for both indoor and outdoor environments.The successful Candidate will play a key role in developing, prototyping, and testing path planning, kinematics, and control algorithms for mobile robots, and potentially manipulators, as part of ongoing projects within the Robotics and Software Intelligence (RSI) Division.This position also involves hands-on testing on state-of-the-art mobile robotics platforms.

• Start date: Quarter 1, 2025

Tasks and Responsibilities

• Analyse project requirements based on use cases
• Identify solutions using State-of-the-Art navigation and data fusion techniques
• Design software architecture and develop algorithms, testing them with both simulated and real datasets
• Develop and evaluate software for autonomous navigation of mobile robots, including manipulation capabilities
• Implement, test, integrate, and optimise solutions on the target robot architecture and its simulated twin.

Skills and Experience

• Master or PhD in relevant fields (AI, robotics, computer science, software engineering)
• At least 3-4 years of demonstrable experience in robotics perception, localisation and navigation
• Strong background in path planning, kinematics, dynamics and control of mobile robots
• Good background in computer vision, mapping, SLAM and sensor data fusion (Ex. Kalman filtering)
• Very strong programming skills (C++, Python) on Linux environment, Git tools and docker
• Experience with:

• Robotics software development in ROS/ROS2 and ROS Navigation stack
• Integration and testing of developed SW components on real robots and within an industrial setting or field testing and validation campaigns
• Willingness to commit and take on major responsibilities in challenging robotic field test campaigns
• Good proficiency with technical documentation
• Strength to cope with schedules and deadlines
• Good written and spoken English.

Considered as Assets

• Development using robotics simulators (e.g. Gazebo, Webots, Unity)
• Experience with:

• UAV control or navigation
• Manipulators and grasping methods
• DL frameworks (e.g. TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras)
• Robotics software architectures design and Network schemas
• Continuous Integration methodologies.
