Research Associate
School of Dentistry, College of Biomedical & Life Sciences
Cardiff University

Cardiff University, Violence Research Group and Security, Crime and Intelligence Institute invites applications for a full time Research Associate post (12 months fixed term), based at the Social Science Research Park (SPARK), Cathays.

There is a strong case for hospital-based violence intervention programmes (HVIPs) based in Emergency Departments (EDs). HVIPs have recently emerged as a public health response to violent victimisation, but despite interest in HVIPs there has been no rigorous evaluation of this public health approach to violence in the UK. The overarching aim of the proposed work is an effectiveness and cost-effectiveness study of an ED based Violence Prevention Team (VPT).

The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, have experience of mixed methods research, completed or near to completing a PhD in a related field or relevant industrial experience. Being comfortable presenting to large groups and working with a broad range of stakeholders is an important feature of this project. The role will primarily involve leading and contributing to research papers.

Cardiff University offers many excellent benefits, including 45 days annual leave (incl bank holidays), local pension scheme, a cycle to work scheme and other travel initiatives, annual increments within the pay scale, and more. It is an exciting and vibrant place to work, with many different challenges and is a proud Living Wage supporter.

The majority of roles at Cardiff University are currently operating under ‘blended working’ arrangements, with staff having the flexibility to work partly from home and partly from the University campus depending on specific business requirements.

Discussions around these arrangements can take place after the successful candidate has been appointed.

For confidential, informal enquiries regarding this vacancy please contact Professor Simon Moore, [email protected]).

This post is full-time (35 hours per week), fixed term for a period of 12 months from 1st May 2024 to 30th April 2025.

Salary: £39,347 – £44,263 per annum (Grade 6).
Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.
