Job Description:Grade UE07: £39,347 to £46,974 per annum.School of Engineering / CSEFull time: 35 hours per week.Fixed Term: for 12 months.The Opportunity:This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Associate who wishes to work on developing an “intelligent memory accelerator” for large-scale artificial intelligence systems and bring it to the market. It is a post mixing academic innovation with the aim to launch a start-up, taking an idea from the lab to the world.This post is full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.Your skills and attributes for success:

• A good undergraduate degree and a PhD in electronics engineering or a clearly related area, with a focus on digital systems design, or a closely related area or equivalent industry experience.
• Solid experience with HDL-level development, ideally both in FPGA and ASIC flows.
• Strong sense of documentation discipline.
• Keen interest in the semiconductor industry, its trends and new developments.
• Genuine attraction to commercialisation of technology and making an impact in the world.

In 2002, the present School of Engineering was formed from the previously existing departments of Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics and Electrical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering. Since then, the School has grown from strength to strength, growing rapidly in the last 5 years, now having the largest number of students among the seven Schools in the College of Science and Engineering, offering undergraduate degree programmes across all disciplines and taught Masters courses in niche areas. All of the undergraduate degree programmes are accredited by the relevant professional institutions.The School of Engineering addresses diverse complex challenges across the entire field of engineering, at the micro- and macro/global scales. At the microscopic scale, its research supports the design and deployment of novel nanotechnology and devices for biological monitoring and medical diagnosis; at the macro/global scale, it optimises the security and sustainability of the built environment and develops engineering solutions to climate change issues.
