Role DetailsResearch Associate – Downstream Process DevelopmentRoles: Full-time, permanentLocation: Harrow, LondonSalary: Competitive + bonus + benefitsThe RoleWe’re seeking a meticulous and analytical Research Associate to join our Downstream Process Development team in our new, state-of-the-art Biopharma labs, supporting the downstream process development of assigned biosimilar projects, conducting technology transfer activities and enabling the scale-up of our selected molecules for commercial manufacturing and process characterisation. On a day-to-day basis, you’ll take ownership of your assigned work, completing routine downstream activities, such as chromatography purification, filtration and UF/DF operations, before conducting the associated data analysis and finalising any necessary reports or paperwork – all within adherence to the required quality, safety and regulatory requirements. To support the smooth running of your team, you’ll help to prepare lab schedules, peer review documentation, support equipment maintenance and troubleshooting and participate in relevant EHS activities, audits and risk assessments. As a small but growing team, you’ll also have the opportunity to work closely with the other departments of our Biopharma team to ensure process handovers run smoothly and to gain a holistic understanding of how each area of our labs function.The Person

  • Experience working in a similar Research Scientist / Research Associate role in biopharma / biotech / contract research labs, with good technical experience using downstream equipment.
  • Experience in chromatography techniques and primary recovery processes.
  • Working experience in chromatography-based purification, UF/DF and filtration techniques
  • Basic understanding of therapeutic antibody / protein quality attributes.
  • Good IT and data analysis skills, including the use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Excellent communication skills (written and spoken English), confident working with colleagues of all seniority levels and able to navigate cultural differences with ease.
  • Proactive and agile team player, but also able working on own initiative.
  • Strong organisation skills, able to manage conflicting tasks to meet deadlines and to solve problems on your feet, even in a busy and changeable work environment.
  • Degree / Masters / PhD level qualification in a biological science or technical scientific discipline.
