Your Role: The Regulatory Attorney will work closely with various departments to counsel on corporate and legal issues related to business functions. We are especially interested in an attorney proficient in commercial insurance. We need a proactive individual who can anticipate potential regulatory challenges and develop strategies to mitigate them. Your role will also involve ongoing and constant communication externally, including with insurance regulators, other governmental authorities, and policyholders and their representatives. We’re looking for someone with excellent analytical and writing skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and effectively. Your work:
- Research and analysis of insurance statutes and regulations, related legislative history and case law, and insurance bulletins and memorandums
- Monitoring changes in regulatory laws and maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws and regulations, industry trends, and best practices
- Providing business-oriented legal advice on regulatory matters
- Simplifying complex issues and providing pragmatic advice and practical solutions that can be operationalized
- Collaborating with other Regulatory Attorneys to help shape the regulatory strategy for the company
- Participating in cross-functional teams on company initiatives and projects, assisting the business in driving business results
- Representing the company in regulatory investigations and administrative proceedings
- Interacting with federal and state regulators
- Assisting with the investigation, evaluation, and drafting communications to Department of Insurance consumer complaints, inquiries, data calls, surveys, and examinations
- Drafting, reviewing, advising, and negotiating contracts, policies, procedures, and other legal documents
Required Experience, Education and Skills
- A law degree (JD) and licensed to practice and in good standing with a state bar association in the United States
- 10+ years experience advising clients in a law firm or an in-house law depart
- 5+ years of experience in regulatory compliance or a related field
- Experience in the Property and Casualty insurance industry (or the insurance industry in general) and with commercial insurance (particularly in the commercial auto, shared economy and new mobility fields)
- Familiarity with reinsurance and excess/surplus lines
- Experience with responding to Department of Insurance policyholder complaints and inquiries, data calls, surveys, and market conduct examinations
- Experience with regulatory filings
- Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with various departments in the company and at all levels in the organization, including legal and business partners
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills
- Excellent time management skills and interpersonal habits
- Flexibility, adaptability, and capacity to balance multiple projects with short deadlines
- Ability to work with minimal supervision, be a team player, and be committed to providing a high level of service and work product
- Shows respect for differences through excellent communication skills with people from an array of backgrounds

The national average salary range for this position is $177,000 -$197,000. However, we have a location-based compensation structure. Our salary ranges vary and are calculated based on county of residence. The full salary range for this position across all the states we hire in is $159,000- $236,000. This role also includes an opportunity for a company-wide annual discretionary bonus, through our Annual Incentive Plan (AIP), of up to 15% of eligible pay.
