Job Description

The Faculty of Arts & Humanities is looking to appoint a Quality Assurance Administrator, on a full time basis, for a fixed term period (March 2024 to October 2024).

This post will also be responsible for supporting the day-to-day administration of numerous quality-related processes within the Faculty, including the annual Competition & Market Authority process, the collaborative activity approval and review process, as well as supporting the assessment agenda, providing specialist advice and support to both academic and professional services staff. The Quality Assurance Administrator will work with the Quality Assurance Team and key role-holders both within the Faculty and across the College to ensure processes are delivered both timely and effectively and in accordance with both Faculty and College priorities, requirements and policies. Successful candidates will have excellent communication skills, attention to detail and will have the ability to prioritise effectively and meet tight deadlines. They will have a proactive approach and a commitment to continuous improvement. Experience of SITS student records database would also be beneficial.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the Quality Assurance Manager and Vice-Dean (Education) in implementing and monitoring the College-wide curriculum review outcomes across the Faculty, ensuring that they are delivered in accordance with Faculty and College policies.
  • Responsibility for coordinating the arrangements of the approval and monitoring of the Faculty’s taught collaborative provision and to make appropriate reports to relevant university committees, as directed by Quality Assurance Manager.
  • Leading the annual Competition & Marketing Authority (CMA) process for the academic departments in the Faculty, in line with College requirements. Working with the Education & Quality Administrator to interpret the outcomes of module and programme changes and determine how these relate to existing CMA and programme specification materials, liaising with departments where required.
  • Supporting the QA team in the use of the College’s Online Approvals system (OPAMA).
  • Support the examination and assessment agenda in the Faculty working closely with the Faculty Assessment Board Chairs (UG and PGT), Quality Assurance Manager and Senior Programme Manager.
  • Assist the Quality Assurance Manager in other quality processes, such as programme enhancement plans, programme reviews and the annual programme specification review.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of quality assurance procedures, proactively identifying areas of improvement for service users as needed, dealing with enquiries and queries as required.
  • To act as Secretary to the Faculty Education Committee, taking direction from Vice-Dean (Education) and the Quality Assurance Manager.
  • To represent the Faculty Education Team at relevant College meetings and share best practice with QA colleagues.

Skills, knowledge, and experience

Essential criteria * Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to draft documents and correspondence for a broad range of audiences

  • Ability to deal with a wide variety of people in a professional and assured manner
  • Excellent attention to detail, with an ability to maintain high levels of accuracy when dealing with large volumes of documentation
  • Excellent data analysis skills, with the ability to assimilate large and complex sets of information quickly and accurately
  • Excellent IT skills (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Experience of interpreting complex regulations and processes and explaining these to a varied audience in a straightforward and engaging manner
  • Experience of anticipating problems and applying proactive and innovative approaches to resolve issues
  • Experience of formal committee servicing, including drafting agendas and minutes
  • Knowledge of quality assurance within the Higher Education context
  • Ability to multi-task, balancing competing priorities under pressure of deadlines and workload
  • Proactive with the ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Desirable criteria * Educated to degree level or equivalent experience

  • Experience of managing and refining processes, preferably within an academic environment
  • Experience of managing projects
  • Experience in the use of databases, student records systems (e.g. SITS) and website content management systems
