The Opportunity

The Boeing MQ-28 Ghost Bat is a globally-significant program that will deliver a disruptive advantage to support Defence operational capabilities. MQ-28 is the first military aircraft to be designed, engineered and manufactured in Australia in more than 50 years.

The team to deliver the MQ-28 manufacturing facility will be expanding Boeing’s Australian Information Technology and Data Analytics capability. The seamless integration of IT systems and the physical processes carried out in the factory will be a major contributor to MQ-28 long term success.

Boeing are looking for a technology aligned Manufacturing Technology Lead (Factory Systems) to join our team supporting the cutting edge MQ-28 Ghost Bat program. In this role you will expand your knowledge of manufacturing systems through developing an end-to-end understanding of the production process and operations for the MQ-28 Ghost Bat. You will then apply this to implement Digital and IT solutions for the establishment and ongoing execution of the future full rate MQ-28 production facility.

The Manufacturing Technology Lead (Factory Systems) is a critical IT&DA role for the MQ-28 Production Uplift Program (PUP) in helping to design the IT solutions enabling the Production Processes and Manufacturing Operations for Boeing Defence Australia and Wellcamp. Initially the role is focused on defining the solution features associated to the resin infusion production process. This will then expand into the assembly and digital thread of production planning and execution with subsequent tranches of MQ-28 PUP. This role is based at Wellcamp Airport, Toowoomba.

As the Manufacturing Technology Lead (Factory Systems) for the MQ-28 Production Uplift Program, you will:

  • Work closely with the Production Systems Engineering and Mechatronics team to integrate IT solutions with Mechatronics and Controls solutions

  • Install, configure, tailor and sustain software solutions for Resin Infusion production process

  • Support Solution Architect with end to end solution for Manufacturing Production Solutions

  • Ensure compliance of Manufacturing Production Solutions software with Information Technology and Data Analytics compliance requirements

  • Develop and maintain code and integrate software components into a fully functional software system.

  • Perform troubleshooting of operational and integration issues.

  • Maintain and analyse performance data.

  • Assist with test procedures and documenting test results to ensure software system requirements are met.

  • Assist in the creation of estimates, plans, schedules and corrective action.

  • Support software project management and software supplier management functions.

  • Develop new strategies and IT procedures to increase efficiency, enhance workflow and improve end user satisfaction.

Education

Bachelors’ or Masters’ degree in a computer, mechatronics, engineering or quantitative discipline (e.g., statistics, data science, artificial intelligence, computer science, mathematics) desirable but not essential

What you might bring

To be successful in this role, you will be comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic manufacturing environment and have:

  • Experience with Industrial Systems Administration and/or Operational Technology (OT) System Administration

  • Experience with programming languages & database tools; Python, C#, web technologies, SQL, PL/SQL.

  • Preferred experience in DevOps & cloud-native technologies; Containerization, CI/CD, microservices

  • 4+ years of relevant work experience in software & web development

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills with strong organizational and planning skills

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional and global enterprise teams.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Commitment to continuous improvement and Boeing’s core values of safety, quality, and integrity

  • Good understanding of general manufacturing processes and operations

  • Exposure to manufacturing or industrial environments with ability to relate to stakeholders at all levels

  • Exposure to the concept of ‘Digital Threads’ and Automation in a manufacturing, construction or industrial context.
