Specialist in modern and contemporary Anglophone literatures, with expertise in the literary production of at least two cultural areas of the English-speaking world, one of which must imperatively be the English language literature of the United States. Readings of Anglophone literatures through postcolonial, ecocritical/environmental and comparative literature approaches will be considered an asset.Area of Research: Anglophone literaturesEducational and scholarly research goals : At the pedagogical level, the successful applicant will be responsible for the teaching of English-language literatures to the students of the Faculty of Letters, Translation and Communication Studies. This remit includes the mentoring and evaluation of MA and PhD students. The successful applicant will also be expected to design new course contents and to create a literature course specifically intended for Master 2- level students within the Interpretation and Translation Studies Department.In a first phase, at the actual time of recruitment, the successful applicant’s remit will total 96 hours of teaching time first and foremost geared towards the needs of students within the Modern Languages and Germanic Languages divisions.Courses covered at the time of recruitment:
- Bachelier 1, GERM B 115 : « Analyse de textes littéraires anglais I » (24h) (20th-century literary texts in close reading)
- Bachelier 2, GERM B 205 : « Histoire littéraire et culturelle des pays anglophones II » (24h) (historical overview of English literature)
- Bachelier 3, GERM B 315 : « Analyse de textes littéraires anglais III » (24h) (Anglophone literatures in comparison through the close reading of 19th- and 20th-century texts from a given period/movement outside of Romanticism)
- Master 1, GERM B 425 : « Littérature et civilisation des Etats-Unis d’Amérique » (24h) (historical overview of a given theme in US literature)
In a second phase, the successful applicant will be expected to design and teach a new course totalling 24 hours of lecturing time and specifically geared towards the needs of students within the School of Interpretation and Translation Studies (ISTI-Cooremans):
- Master 2: new course to be designed: « Écrivains-traducteurs anglophones et littérature traduite dans le monde anglophone » (24h) (Anglophone authors as translators of texts and translated fiction in the English-speaking world)
At the level of scholarly research, the successful applicant will be expected to make a full and dynamic contribution to research in Anglophone literatures within the Faculty of Letters, Translation and Communication Studies, as well as to ensure the visibility of this research in both international and national scholarly networks. The successful candidate will also be expected to apply for funding from and to projects coordinated by bodies outside the ULB itself (“Fonds National de la Recherche Scientifique” (FNRS), regional institutions, Civis, European institutions/European Research Council, etc.).
