About Our Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated and experienced Production Team Leader at our Ulverstone food manufacturing facility. Simplot Ulverstone has a proud history in the local community and its location on the banks of the Leven River makes it ideally close to the rich, fertile soils where our potatoes grow. We process around 300,000 tonnes of potatoes from 165 Tasmanian growers each year whilst employing over 450 people.

Site capabilities / products include fries (coated & uncoated + different cuts), sweet potato fries, potato gems, and hash browns whilst we have 8 automated packing lines. Our customers include the leading restaurant chains, major and independent supermarkets in addition to the food service industry.

Reporting to the Packing Area Manager, this permanent, full-time position will lead a team of experienced Operators within our Packing area and will work a rotating 4:4 day / night (2 x day / 2 x night / 4 x off) roster with 12.25 hour shifts.

What You Will Do

Leading your team in safe work practices with a quality based mindset, duties will include (but are not limited to);

• Demonstrate safe work methodology

• Facilitate daily pre-start meetings and convey any handover and / or site communications

• Provide first point of contact for any issues arising from production processes or equipment, and escalate as required

• Liaise with Production Area Managers, Production Manager and Maintenance (mechanical & electrical) teams for problem solving and resolution of breakdown (and preventative maintenance) activities

• Provide inputs to shift reporting data

• System entry and approval of team member timesheets

• Provide coverage to Packing team members throughout the shift

• Participate in site Continuous Improvement (CI) activities

About You

• Possess a 100% commitment to health, safety and wellbeing in the workplace

• Have a sound understanding and working knowledge of the Lean Manufacturing methodology (essential)

• Demonstrated skill set and knowledge of operating fixed plant food processing equipment and machinery

• Possess people leadership skills with a focus on interactive / in-person engagement and a willingness to guide people & their performance

• Ability & confidence to facilitate meetings

• Ability to work 12 hour shifts across a 4:4 day / night rotating roster

• Show strong attention to detail, ability to follow standard work and complete tasks to a high standard

• Be driven to engage in personal development opportunities

• Possess an intermediate level of PC skills using the Windows platform
