We now wish to capitalise on this success and build on our ambition by expanding our Environment and Planning Team.We are seeking a Principal Town Planner with a minimum of 10 years post-qualification consultancy experience to work on challenging and exciting infrastructure projects across various sectors (e.g., water services, renewables, ports and harbours, aviation, flooding, and climate change resilience, etc.).This is a fantastic opportunity for a highly motivated candidate to join a well-established and reputable engineering, environmental and planning consultancy, in a friendly, dynamic, and flexible working environment, and to further advance their planning career working on a range of prestigious infrastructure projects.The successful candidate will report to the Head of Environment & Planning Team at Nicholas O’Dwyer.Main Duties and Responsibilities:The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Managing, coordinating, and preparing planning applications (LA and SID) including conducting pre-planning consultations and engaging with relevant statutory bodies and agencies, preparing planning application documentation, and carrying out technical reviews of planning drawings.
- Preparing bespoke planning strategies.
- Managing, coordinating, and preparing responses to Further Information Requests for planning applications and planning compliance submissions (including Article 9 reviews of exempted development).
- Preparing planning appeals and responding to third party appeals.
- Providing expert witness for oral hearings.
- Providing planning advice to engineering colleagues and clients.
- Delivering on client expectations for Environment & Planning projects.
- Managing and overseeing projects run by the Environmental & Planning Team day-to-day, including preparing fee proposals, invoicing, and delivering on client expectations.
- Managing sub-consultants and sub-contractors contributing to projects.
- Overseeing, guiding, and managing junior team members in their professional development.
- Ensuring quality and adherence to professional standards of project deliverables.
- Developing excellent relationships with clients and attending meetings with clients and design teams.
- Managing and preparing tender submissions and fee proposals.
Qualifications and Experience:We are looking for a Candidate with the following knowledge, experience, and attributes:
- A postgraduate degree in Town Planning.
- Chartered status or professional membership of the IPI / RTPI.
- Previous consultancy experience
- Excellent knowledge of environmental legislation, guidance, and standards, including their application through infrastructure projects.
- Significant experience of preparing and submitting planning applications, drafting planning reports, planning strategies etc. for a wide range of projects.
- Experience in EIA, both as an EIA practitioner and in EIA management, is desirable.
- Experience in the areas of SEA and AA, is desirable.
- Experience in overseeing, and/or project managing multidisciplinary projects.
- Proven track record of dealing proactively with complex planning issues on infrastructure projects.
- Exceptional organisational and project management skills.
- Excellent report writing skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Ability to develop and maintain a strong client base.
- Ability to lead and manage teams effectively and efficiently under pressure.
- Be a team player who is self-motivated, pragmatic, solution driven and have a flexible approach with a willingness to actively participate as part of a wider multidisciplinary team
- Knowledge of relevant software including MS office, GIS, Adobe Creative Suite.
