We are the Microsoft 365 Service Communications team within the Experiences & Devices division at Microsoft. Our mission: To empower customers with timely, targeted, and actionable information and insights on upcoming new value and issues impacting their productivity. We span the whole customer spectrum, from Enterprise IT Admins to the EDU and Small Business, through to the end user.

We work closely with the Amplify team on the Office Enterprise Admin Center and create the Message Center and Service Health Dashboard. Our features are used every day by Enterprise IT Admins across the world. Our Customer Communication ecosystem is quickly growing with the aim of building customer trust in Microsoft’s ability to bring them new value with no business disruption.

We are looking for a Principal Engineering Manager passionate about engineering performant and scalable services to join us in this highly visible, impactful, and challenging mission. We operate in a Combined Engineering model and our engineering managers are expected and encouraged to partner up with their Product Manager counterparts to refine our goals and objectives and grow our business in scope and in impact.

In this role you will work with peers and across disciplines, in close partnership with Program Management and Design, to create, implement, and roll-out features in a full-stack development model, which we build using the latest tech: React, Azure, AzureSQL, DocumentDB, COSMOSDB, ADO, Git, and the core web dev stack – C#, JavaScript and Typescript, HTML/CSS, etc. Our code ties into engineering systems across Microsoft.

Your responsibilities will include: 

  • Hiring and leading a team of strong software engineers. 
  • Manage delivery schedules in an agile delivery environment. 
  • In partnership and collaboration with Program Management and Engineering leadership, set strategy for your areas of business ownership. 
  • Set aggressive but realistic Objectives and Key Results and lead your team to provide the engineering creativity, smarts, and ingenuity to make them happen on time and with high customer satisfaction. 
  • Working close partnership with Program Management and Design in the creation of services and user facing features. 
  • Working closely with partner teams to remove execution and adoption barriers. 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • Customer obsession is a must. 
  • Strong desire to build a healthy, diverse and inclusive team. 
  • Strong experience, ability, and willingness to work collaboratively and independently with others on architecture and design of large, distributed systems. 
  • Experience either as an individual contributor or hands-on manager with Web Application Frameworks – AngularJS, React, or equivalent, writing in C#, Javascript, TypeScript, AzureSQL/NoSQL DBs. 
  • Proven ability to design and develop loosely coupled, componentized, and unit-tested software. 
  • Demonstrated software validation and automated monitoring skills. 
  • Demonstrated success in executing against a software development schedule. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science OR related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python
  • OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • People management experience.
