Job Description

The Role

Reporting to the Engineering Lead you will maintain the sites mechanical integrity program in accordance with regulatory, Australian, and international code compliance, and Albemarle corporate requirements. You will be responsible for performing (internal and external) inspection activities, repair procedure development in consultation with Mechanical Engineers for pressure vessels, pressure piping, storage tanks and pressure safety valves.

In addition, you will supervise site welding activities, provide breakdown and shutdown welding support, and be responsible for the management of site welder qualifications and weld procedure specifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively participates and supports the Site Safety initiatives and programs.

  • Internal and external inspection of pressure equipment and storage tanks in accordance with AS3788, API 653 and AS1940

  • External inspection of pressure safety valves in accordance with AS3788 and API 576.

  • Providing planned, unplanned and shutdown inspection and non-destructive testing activity support to operations / maintenance.

  • Develop asset integrity maintenance plans and associated inspection work instructions for scheduled inspections of pressure equipment and storage tanks.

  • Co-ordination of non-destructive testing activities to support pressure vessel and welding inspection requirements.

  • Raising of corrective notifications in SAP for pressure vessel and weld repair remedial activities.

  • Development of modification and repair work scopes (in consultation with mechanical engineers), including weld repairs to comply with AS1210 and ASME VIII for pressure vessels, AS4041 for pressure piping and AS4100 for structural repairs.

  • Visual inspection of weldments to ensure compliance with AS4037 for pressure equipment and AS1554 for structures.

  • Ensure welding activity quality assurance records (or MDR’s) are maintained in SAP or equipment history files for repairs and modification works

  • Management of welder qualifications and recertification records

  • Management of weld procedure specifications and associated weld procedure qualification records

  • Technical review and approval for use of external welding contractor weld procedure specifications and welder qualifications.

  • Ability to liaise with reliability, process safety, planning, operations, and maintenance stakeholders to define and coordinate asset integrity works to maintain compliance whilst minimizing the overall impacts.

  • Report to the engineering team lead on program compliance (KPI’s) and improvement recommendations.

  • Provide Asset Integrity input to routine and long-term maintenance and sustaining capital budgets.

  • Continuous improvement of site asset integrity plan’s effectiveness and efficiency.

Work Experience / Technical Skill

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar role within a chemical processing plant or highly complex environment

  • Demonstrates a sound knowledge and understanding of governing standards for managing pressure equipment AS1210, AS3788 and ASME VIII).​

  • Good working knowledge of Australian Standards AS1554 part 1 and part 6, and AS4037.

  • Experience in the development of modification and repair work scopes for pressure equipment.

  • Fully conversant with welding codes.

  • Ability to understand technical and fabrication drawings.

  • Effective interpersonal skills.

Qualifications: –

  • AICIP or API inspection certification (4 years minimum experience).

  • Weld inspector qualification / certification (CSWIP 3.1 minimum level) (4 years minimum experience).

  • API 650 tank inspector qualification (preferable) ​

  • Engineering qualifications highly regarded
