Make your mark for patientsWe are seeking a Media Development Scientist who is passionate about innovation, organized, and possesses good communication skills to join our Starting and Raw materials Sciences team, based in Braine-l’alleud, Belgium.About the RoleAs a Media Development Scientist, you will be involved in media development activities relating to the early stage process development and late stage process optimization, transfer and clinical/commercial manufacturing support for upstream processes to produce protein therapeutics and/or gene therapy products.You will spend up to 60% of your time in the laboratory performing cell culture and/or analytical experiments.Who you will work withYou will collaborate with a dynamic and multidisciplinary team of scientists and technical experts. Regular interaction with team members, managers, manufacturing, quality and regulatory partners will be essential to ensure projects success.What You Will Do
- Be responsible for optimizing UCB’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) policies and standards
- Apply Quality by Design (ObD) principles and use Design of Experiment (DoE) methodology to design and execute experiments, mainly using small scale (Shake flasks, Ambr15, Ambr250, 2L glass bioreactor)
- Design new cell culture media and feed formulations for CHO and HEK cells and manage related projects
- Support CMC development and participate in the transfer of technologies to clinical and commercial manufacturing.
- Analyze complex data dataset using statistical approaches and present results to the team
- Support and improve commercial manufacturing processes and participate actively in risk assessments related to starting and raw materials
- Generate experimental reports to support technology transfer and regulatory filings
Interested? For this role we’re looking for the following education, experience and skills
- PhD or Master’s degree biological sciences, biochemistry, chemical engineering, or a related field
- Experience in process optimization and characterization in a laboratory setting
- Proficiency in applying QbD principles and DoE methodology
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Excellent communication and transversal team management skills
- Flexibility to work occasionally on weekends if needed
- Very good command in English
