About MENA Rights Group
MENA Rights Group is a Geneva-based legal advocacy NGO, focusing on the protection and promotion of fundamental rights and freedoms in the Middle East and North Africa. Adopting a holistic approach, we work at both the individual and structural level. We provide legal counselling to victims of human rights violations through recourse to international law mechanisms. In addition, we assess the human rights situation on the ground and bring key issues to the attention of relevant stakeholders to call for legal and policy reform. We are a small and dynamic group of human rights practitioners sharing a passion for the MENA region.
Key responsibilities
We are looking for someone to build our brand and image, enhance our visibility, implement our media strategy in support of our advocacy for the defence of human rights in the MENA region. The role requires autonomy, creativity and adaptability, and a passion for creating impactful messages to advocate for the respect of human rights in the MENA.
Key responsibilities include:
- Communications Strategy, Implementation, and Processes: oversee and implement our Communications Strategy; plan processes and guidelines for our team; develop our brand and ensure consistency across all platforms.
- Digital Communications: manage and develop our digital communications platforms including our website, social media channels and newsletter, and ensure increased engagement.
- Campaigns & Events: Conceptualize and implement advocacy and awareness campaigns; support the organisation of public events.
- Content & Multimedia Production: Produce compelling written materials (e.g., profiles of victims and survivors; press releases; annual report) and multimedia content (e.g., graphics; short videos, etc.); edit and proofread materials to ensure clarity and consistency in our storytelling.
- Media Outreach: Develop relationship with journalists and pitch stories.
- Monitoring and Reporting: track performance indicators to ensure highest impact; prepare reports on media coverage, campaigns performance and audience engagement.
Required skills and qualities
- Demonstrated interest in advancing human rights in the MENA region.
- University degree or diploma in communications, public relations, journalism, political science, international relations or a related field.
- Relevant professional experience; ideally in working in an NGO and/or on human rights issues.
- Excellent English drafting and editing skills, and full oral and written Arabic proficiency. Knowledge of French a plus.
- Graphic design and short video editing skills.
- Ability to take ownership and being proactive, self-organise and a self-starter.
- Be able to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines.
- High attention to detail.
- Enjoy working in a small and multicultural team.
