About the role

BMT is leading the charge in the transformative era of Maritime Autonomous Systems (MAS). As the MAS Consultant, you’ll be at the forefront of innovation, shaping the future of the maritime sector for a more sustainable tomorrow.

You will lead the development of cutting-edge consultancy solutions in MAS, contributing to in-house capability development and play a key role in academic and business thought leadership, bringing fresh perspectives to the forefront.

You will transfer your expertise into BMT’s core business, influencing and driving positive change whilst showcasing your skills in bidding for and winning exciting MAS projects.

You will oversee the entire lifecycle of projects—from technical design to successful delivery and management and keep a keen eye on maritime markets and technology trends, generating proactive responses to complex engineering challenges

In terms of location, we have offices in Bath, Bristol, London, Fareham, Weymouth & Plymouth and we are happy to explore flexible and hybrid working arrangements. Please note that travel to customer sites or to attend meetings will be required. This role is available part-time, job-share or full time. This is because we want the best people for our roles, and we recognise that sometimes those people aren’t available full-time.

About you

We recruit the brightest and most passionate design, engineering, technical and management consultants and we look for those who will support our reputation for excellence, share our commitment to integrity and innovation and are responsible and responsive doers.

The successful candidate will have a track record of qualifications and experience in one or more of the following technical areas:

  • Experience in remote or uncrewed systems in maritime autonomy, aviation, autonomous transport/automotive industries.
  • Human factors of remote control and human-machine teaming
  • Immersive simulation development or virtual testing
  • AI, machine learning, optimisation
  • Uncrewed vessel design/ build/ commissioning/ operation
  • Sensors and machine perception for situation awareness and navigation
  • Autonomous control systems, control architectures, Integrated Platform Management Systems (IPMS)
  • Availability, Reliability and Maintainability engineering
