Applications are invited for the position of Locum Consultant General Anaesthetist with special interest in Obstetric Anaesthesia.The post will provide input into obstetric anaesthesia on-call rota 1:9 at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.The Department provides Anaesthesia services for all major surgical specialties and works across two sites. Most elective work takes place at Castle Hill Hospital whilst urgent care, obstetric and paediatric care is at Hull Royal Infirmary.The Women’s and Children’s hospital manages about 6000 deliveries per year, with an elective caesarean section rate of 10% and an emergency caesarean section rate of 15%. For many years, Hull has been a leading centre for the practice and teaching of obstetric anaesthesia. There are active research and audit programs and opportunities for innovation in clinical practice.Main duties of the jobThe Locum consultant will be expected to join the on-call rota which is currently 1 in 8 and will become 1 in 9 after joining the post. During weekday on-calls, you might have to be resident on call from 6pm till 8pm and non-resident after 8pm. For weekend on-calls (you are non-resident), it starts at 6pm on Friday and is continuous on Saturday and Sunday. We are accommodative for split weekends on-calls if warranted after discussing with the consultant group. When on call from home you are ONLY responsible for Obstetric Anaesthesia. The trust has separate on call rotas for General Anaesthesia and Critical Care.
