The role has both a transactional and a regulatory advisory dimension to it and would suit a 2-4 PQE lawyer with private practice experience. Some in-house experience would be a plus. The role would suit a dynamic individual who relishes the opportunity for a challenge and the chance to broaden their skillset.What are the main responsibilities?

• Advising the trading desks in London on derivatives transactions across all product types and counterparties.
• Drafting and negotiating trading agreements (e.g. ISDAs and GMRAs), confirmations, amendment and novation agreements and guarantees.
• Assisting with the preparation and negotiation of collateral documentation.
• Negotiating and advising on various brokerage agreements, trading platform / venue agreements and clearing documentation including custody agreements.
• Tracking and assessing the impact of financial markets regulation on the business.
• Assisting and advising on regulatory change and implementation affecting the trading desks and taking collective responsibility for ensuring our templates are updated accordingly.
• Actively liaising with colleagues and other stakeholders throughout the Bank where applicable to your role on legal risk matters affecting the banks environment.
• Other more general in-house legal work such as reviewing and negotiating NDAs, waiver letters and other commercial agreements.
• An opportunity to support our bank funding and treasury business with the negotiation and review of various deposit agreements.
• Providing ad hoc legal advice on legal matters arising.
• Keeping abreast of developments and any changes in the nature and extent of the Bank’s activities as applicable to your role from time to time.

You will be expected to gain a good understanding of the business by working closely with your colleagues in Investec Legal, and the business in order to provide proactive legal support.What core skills and knowledge and we looking for?

• Qualified lawyer, between 2-4 years PQE gained in a leading UK law firm. In house experience a plus.
• Experience of OTC derivatives and close familiarity with all ISDA documentation.
• Experience of GMRA documentation. Experience of GMSLA documentation desirable but not essential.
• Regulatory knowledge as applicable to the role.
• Ability to develop strong stakeholder relationships and manage external legal counsel relationships when required.
• Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate legal concepts to non-lawyers in a clear and concise manner and provide practical, clear and concise commercial advice.
• Good commercial awareness and a pragmatic approach, being able to match legal expertise with partnering with the business approach and client focus.
• Excellent working and practical commercial and technical knowledge of all legal documentation applicable to the business areas together with the applicable law and regulation relating to the provision of banking and financial services.
• Can think on their feet and provide on the spot legal and regulatory advice as well as dealing with general queries that arise from the trading business areas.
• Team player, proactive and enjoys working closely with the key business stakeholders as well as the wider IBP Legal team and other functions within the bank.
