About The RoleWe are looking to offer a Legal Counsel the opportunity to join our expanding Legal & CoSec team based in Stevenage.About your teamYou will be a member of the newly formed Legal & CoSec team, reporting to the Group General Counsel. The team provides legal, governance and compliance support and advice to the Group. You will work across all Divisions being Energy, Water, Telecoms, Transport (Rail & Aviation), Transport (Highways) and departments forming part of Group Support providing general commercial legal expertise.We offer a flexible working environment where hybrid working has been embedded.   • Provide legal input into the review and development of client contracts across all our Divisions including discussing and negotiating contracts with clients and suppliers to agree acceptable contract terms
  • Review and develop a broad range of commercial contracts including outsourcing agreements, software licences and service agreements, secondment agreements and other general commercial agreements
  • Support and provide legal input to Group M&A activities
  • Work with the General Counsel, Senior Legal Counsel and the Data Protection Officer to put in place adequate policies, procedures and processes to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, in particular data privacy issues
  • Provide advice and support in relation to the identification and protection of intellectual property rights
  • As well as the core work, adapt and tackle other legal matters that arise such as supporting the resolution of potential contentious issues and aiding the understanding of the ever-changing legislative environment in which we operate.
  • Work with the General Counsel to:
  • provide legal training to colleagues;
  • support tender governance processes;
  • ensure adequate compliance processes and procedures;
  • manage use of legal panel and controlling external spend; and
  • maintain template agreements.

What you’ll bring?

  • UK qualified solicitor, educated to degree level with 4+ years PQE (flexible)
  • Transactional commercial experience (preferably with some exposure to corporate M&A work)
  • Strong technical skills in contract drafting and negotiation
  • Understanding of cloud services, cybersecurity, enterprise sales, systems integration and outsourcing
  • Experience advising on internal data protection and GDPR policies
  • Working knowledge of the markets and sectors in which we operate
