Leicestershire County Council has an exciting opportunity for a Legal Assistant to join its friendly and busy Environment & Property Team.

  • A Legal Executive qualification or equivalent ; or
  • Possess a relevant third qualification;

About the Role

To deal with the processing of a range of orders necessary to undertake works on public highways including the extinguishment of highway rights, the creation and/or modification of public rights of way, as well as the preparation of a range of standard highway agreements, licences and notices

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • Should be qualified or be training towards a Legal Executive qualification or equivalent OR Have a relevant Third Qualification
  • Ability to understand and apply statutory provisions and procedures.
  • Able to make decisions on where and to whom to refer legal matters. Organised and methodical paying particular attention to detail
  • Knowledge of Highways legislation including the Highways Act 1980, Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984 and Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and stakeholders. Good drafting skills. Planning and organisation and able to prioritise work effectively
  • Must be computer literate with recent experience of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and computerised case management systems

You must also have an understanding of, and commitment to, equal opportunities, and the ability to apply this to all situations.
