The European Center for Constitutional and Human Rights (ECCHR) is an independent and non-profit human rights organization working primarily through legal means. We initiate, develop and support legal interventions to hold state and non-state actors accountable for human rights abuses.

What we have to offer
You will start an exciting and challenging work in an internationally active human rights organization with a global network and an appreciative working environment. You will be integrated into the International Crimes and Accountability (ICA) Program team, one of the four programs of the organization. Your particular project work will focus on accountability for international crimes in international and German fora regarding crimes committed in Palestine (including arms exports cases). Over time, further topics will be included. You will take part in the strategic and operational work of the various strands of the ICA program through team meetings and beyond.

What the job includes
– Project work in the program area “International Crimes and Accountability”, especially in the projects on Palestine/Israel and coordination with other program areas on specific topics.
– Factual research and preparation of briefs, dossiers, complaints, statements, legal and political analyses, memos and project management documents. This may include researching legal principles, investigating facts, drafting filings for national and international authorities and other accountability mechanisms, and overseeing case building strategies.
– Communication and work in cooperation with partner organizations and affected actors, with the judiciary and authorities, clients, lawyers and those seeking justice for core international crimes, including cooperating with domestic law enforcement and international mechanisms.
– Participation in and organization of events such as workshops, conferences and panel discussions
– Advocacy and public relations, potentially at international, regional, and domestic levels.
– Supporting fundraising and communication
– Supervision of legal trainees

What you bring
– A German law degree with qualifications in public international law, human rights law or international criminal law
– A strong background in international criminal law and/or international humanitarian law either through an advanced degree (LL.M, M.A., or PhD) or professional experience in these fields
– At least two years of relevant professional experience
– Very good knowledge of English and German is a prerequisite
– Knowledge of Hebrew and/or Arabic is strongly desirable
– Work experience in Palestine/Israel or experience working with Palestinian or Israeli organizations is an advantage
– Interest in and in-depth knowledge of the discussions and discourses in the field of international crimes and accountability, in particular double standards and the legal mechanisms at national and international level
– Interest in and knowledge of conflict-related sexual violence, feminist approaches to international law, diversity in international criminal law and power-critical perspectives on international law and international criminal law are an advantage
– Experience in working with organizations and affected people from different cultures and backgrounds, especially from the global south is desirable
– Experience in interdisciplinary work is an advantage
– Willingness and ability to grasp new topics, work with new partners and in diverse teams
– High sensitivity to working on eye level within intercultural and diverse environments and the experience and reflection needed to do so with global south partners from a position of privilege of a Germany-based organization
– Critical thinking on legal, political and social issues and awareness of socio-political hierarchies such as gender, race, class, etc.
– Willingness and ability to explore new topics and collaborations
– Willingness to travel occasionally in and outside of Europe
– A team-player with high social skills

The position is ideally to be filled by September 2024 and is limited to two years with the objective of renewal.

Salary
The remuneration for this position will start at 4.200 Euro for a full-time position of 40 hours per week. We take your qualifications and professional experience into account.
