The post of Lecturer in Modelling of Discrete Event Processes (manufacturing and supply chain) will contribute to extending the research profile of Engineering at Exeter.The University welcomes applications which build on Exeter’s internationally recognised research strengths in this area and face our research and teaching needs within the department. Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Modelling and simulation of manufacturing processes.
  • Modelling and simulation of supply chain.
  • Internet of Things in manufacturing and supply chain.
  • Machine learning solutions for modelling of discrete event processes.

The position of Lecturer in Modelling of Discrete Event Processes (manufacturing and supply chain) will be based in the Exeter Digital Enterprise Systems (ExDES) laboratory led by Prof Ion Sucala and Dr Martino Luis. The group is part of the Engineering department, led by Professor Ion Sucala ( ). Engineering currently has over 100 academic staff across our Exeter (Streatham) and Cornwall (Penryn) campuses. Academics in the Exeter Digital Enterprise Systems (ExDES) laboratory group have particular expertise in modelling and simulation applied to manufacturing and supply chain processes, statistics and machine learning applied to modelling and simulation.The department of Engineering has recently embarked on an ambitious strategy – . The strategy is underpinned by significant investment in staff and facilities, and it aims to build on our existing strengths and continue to develop emerging areas, contributing to the University’s .Main duties

  • To fulfil research, teaching and administration duties as a Lecturer in Modelling of Discrete Event Processes (manufacturing and supply chain).
  • To support the Engineering Department in extending the profile of this research area by attracting and supervising exceptional postdoctoral researchers and postgraduate research students, contributing towards the winning of significant research income, and by undertaking elements of the day-to-day running of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
  • To collaborate with colleagues both within the Faculty and the University of Exeter as a whole in order to develop and support the groups research programmes and other cognate research programmes across the Faculty.
  • To contribute to the general operation of the Faculty as a member of its academic team.

About you
The successful applicant will have an independent research programme that will strengthen and complement the existing team at the University. You will be able to demonstrate the following qualities and characteristics:

  • A PhD or equivalent in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science or other relevant subject.
  • A demonstrable potential to attract research funding.
  • A track record of excellent publications in recognised journals.
  • The aptitude to develop familiarity with a variety of strategies to promote and assess learning.
  • Enthusiasm, knowledge, and ability to teach modules in Engineering, as required.
  • A track record of attracting research collaboration with industrial partners.
  • The ability and enthusiasm for supervising and supporting undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
  • The attitude and ability to engage in continuous professional development.
