As a scale up, the engineering organisation will grow considerably by end FY24/25. To start, we adapted an existing platform to address a new market opportunity and prove our commercial thesis. With this achieved, we secured funding to support our expansion and have embarked on an ambitious scaling of our product engineering team that will rapidly evolve our platform using the latest cloud-native and full-stack technologies to achieve a leadership position in our selected markets. We seek ambitious product engineers (not just software developers) with experience in cloud-native approaches that can shape our platform strategy and accelerate our product development plans.The RoleAs the Lead Engineer for our new cross functional Product Engineering Squad, you will play a pivotal role in steering the evolution of our cloud-based, payments and treasury management system. This position demands a blend of leadership and deep technical expertise. As a Lead Engineer, you will take responsibility for the design and delivery of high-quality solutions and the management and development of your team. Your technical expertise in C#, and .Net, will be crucial in guiding the squad and skills in React and Typescript will be beneficial. You will pair this expertise with strong interpersonal and management skills building and effective team with a great culture. You will collaborate closely with your product owner, stakeholders, and customers, driving the technical vision and execution. Your leadership will be key in fostering a culture of excellence, collaboration, and continuous improvement, setting the standards for a world-class engineering organization.You will lead a newly formed Marketplace squad responsible for delivering solutions for our critical marketplace customers such as Lloyds of London. Due to the nature of the responsibilities, you will work closely with stakeholders from across the business and from other product squads. You and your squad will also play a key part in our transition from a .Net Framework-based platform to a microservices architecture using .Net Core.Responsibilities

  • Leadership and Mentorship: Lead and manage a team of engineers, fostering an environment of professional growth and excellence. You will set objectives, mentor your team, and facilitate their development, driving the squad towards achieving its goals.
  • Delivery Focus: Assume responsibility for the end-to-end delivery of critical initiatives, driving the execution of the squad’s projects in close collaboration with product owner, stakeholders and directly with your customers. Ensure timely, high-quality delivery of features and improvements, emphasising the role’s key focus on achieving tangible results and meeting business objectives.
  • Technical Vision and Strategy: Guide architectural decisions and development strategies to align with the company’s broader objectives. Your expertise in transitioning to a microservices architecture will be vital for the platform’s scalability and performance.
  • Squad Leadership: Direct and manage a newly formed marketplace squad tasked with delivering product development work to support our marketplace customers.
  • Collaborative Innovation: Collaborate with product managers, architects, and commercial teams to refine and execute the product vision. Your role involves translating complex requirements into scalable solutions, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Operational Excellence: Promote software engineering best practices, ensuring code quality and architectural integrity. Champion TDD, CI/CD, and clean code principles to enhance performance, reliability, and security.

Requirements

  • Leadership & Team Development: Demonstrable experience leading technical teams, with a focus on mentoring, professional development, and fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
  • Delivery: Proven ability to own and deliver complex initiatives in close collaboration with your stakeholders
  • Technical Proficiency: Ideally expertise in .Net Core and .Net Framework, ASP.net MVC, with experience in Typescript and React beneficial but not mandatory. Complemented by a solid understanding of event driven architecture and cloud technologies, particularly Azure.
  • Software Engineering Best Practices: Strong grounding in Agile methodologies, SOLID principles, and event driven architecture, with a commitment to continuous improvement and high-quality code. Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Github Actions, Azure DevOps) and proficiency in containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes) and event-driven systems (e.g., Azure Service Bus, RabbitMQ, Kafka).
  • Strategic Thinking & Problem Solving: Ability to align technical strategies with business objectives, with a proactive approach to tackling complex challenges and driving product innovation.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Excellent communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement and team collaboration, with an emphasis on clarity, transparency, and responsiveness to feedback.
