Job Description Summary

As a contributing member of the LOCA, Containment & Stability Analysis Team, you will perform plant thermal-hydraulic safety analysis with two-phase thermal hydraulic analysis techniques. You will support reload and design applications for Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) plants, including currently operating BWR plants as well as new plants (BWRX-300, Natrium) operating or planned worldwide.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Perform plant thermal hydraulic ECCS LOCA, Containment, HELB, Fire Safe Shutdown, Annulus Pressurization Loads, and RIPD analyses.
  • Perform plant thermal-hydraulic Stability analyses, plant noise analyses, and PRNM stability interface.
  • General expertise in two-phase thermal hydraulic analysis techniques.
  • Take responsibility for fuel project activities including reload analyses, methods implementation, new fuel introductions, and safety analysis support for emergent fuel issues.
  • Prepare, document and present technical data to internal/external customers.
  • Lead team process improvements to drive speed and simplification.
  • Ensure work is performed with high quality in accordance with NRC rules and regulations, customer requirements, and business quality assurance standards.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Discipline (Nuclear, Mechanical, Chemical, or similar) from an accredited college or university
  • 3+ years of experience in Nuclear Plant Safety Analysis

Eligibility Requirements

  • The preferred work location for this role is at the GEH Headquarters in Wilmington, NC; but highly qualified (US based) remote candidates will be considered.
  • Comfortable with less than 10% travel
  • This role is restricted to U.S. persons (i.e., U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and other protected individuals under the Immigration and Naturalization Act, 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3)) due to access to U.S. export-controlled technology. GE will require proof of U.S. person status prior to employment.

Desired Characteristics

  • Experience in ECCS LOCA, Containment, HELB, Fire Safe Shutdown, Annulus Pressurization Loads, and Reactor Internals Pressure Difference analyses, and/or
  • Experience in BWR plant thermal hydraulic Stability safety analysis & methods including plant noise analyses, PRNM stability interface, stability setpoints methodology, and frequency and time domain methodologies.
  • M.S. Degree in Nuclear Engineering with experience in T/H modeling as applied to nuclear reactor systems.
  • Experience with BWR technology, BWR ECCS LOCA analysis, and BWR Stability analysis to support applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge of plant operational support in the Stability area
  • Knowledge of reactor licensing requirements
  • Experience with BWR simulator and use of 3-D neutron kinetics (e.g., PANAC)
  • Experience with BWR/PWR T/H systems codes such as TRACG, RELAP & TRACE
  • Experience in Best Estimate methodology development (e.g., TRACG LOCA / Stability)
  • Experience with Best Estimate and CSAU applications
  • Programming experience such as C#, FORTRAN, or PYTHON
  • Demonstrated high energy and the ability to energize others

The base pay range for this position is $86-122k. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for bonuses, such as a performance bonus/variable incentive compensation/equity. This position is expected to close on 8/19/2024.

The company pays a geographic differential of 110%, 120%, or 130% of salary in certain areas.
