Summary:

Meta is seeking a Lead Counsel to join the Australia and New Zealand Legal team. This is a broad regulatory role with a focus on issues such as online safety, privacy, consumer protection, AI, content regulation, product related counselling and disputes. You will also be joining the wider Asia- Pacific legal team to work across emerging and cutting edge issues in the online space and may work on cross- jurisdictional matters. You will partner closely with other legal teams and internal stakeholders from across the business, helping to set strategy and advise on legal risks in the Australian and New Zealand markets. You will have experience handling regulatory and/or litigation matters, ideally with experience in the tech space, and will help develop solutions to legal challenges. This is a great opportunity to join a small and effective legal team and to work on novel issues in a fast-paced environment.This is a full time role that can be based in either our Singapore or Sydney office.

Required Skills:

Lead Counsel, Australia and New Zealand Responsibilities:

  1. Coordinate and work with a cross-functional teams including global subject matter experts to develop and implement regulatory strategies within Australia and New Zealand

  2. Respond to regulatory requests for information and draft regulatory filings

  3. Advisory and project management responsibility across a broad range of legal subjects including tech product counselling and AI, privacy, online safety, content regulation and consumer protection

  4. Participation in other projects (both APAC and global based) as required

  5. Assess legal, practical and business risks quickly and accurately and present this advice to legal and non-legal stakeholders

  6. Collaboration with APAC and global legal teams, as well as with business, policy and communications, to advise on matters relating to Australia and New Zealand.

Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Qualified lawyer with 5+ years PQE in a law firm or in-house

  2. Demonstrated experience advising clients on a wide variety of regulatory matters such as privacy, online safety and consumer protection. Demonstrated experience in other regulated spaces will also be considered.

  3. Key skills in managing and responding to regulatory requests and submissions

  4. Some experience in litigation and/or managing disputes

  5. Candidates should demonstrate experience in adapting to changing priorities and projects

  6. Outstanding judgment and a keen interest in learning about new technologies and how they intersect with legal and policy matters

  1. Experience in advising on significant regulatory inquiries

  2. Prior experience working with internet or technology companies preferred but not essential
