Project Overview:

Western Sydney Airport will provide much-needed additional aviation capacity to meet growing demand in the Sydney basin and improve access to flights for people in Western Sydney. One of Australia’s most significant infrastructure projects in decades, the international and domestic airport will open in 2026, bringing social and economic prosperity to the Western Sydney region. Bechtel is seeking interns for the Western Sydney Airport Project located in Badgerys Creek, Western Sydney.

Bechtel’s internship program was created to cultivate real-life industry interest based on hands-on experience. Many new university graduate hires began their careers at Bechtel as a student intern.

Our Infrastructure Internship program is open to all undergraduates in civil, mechanical, electrical engineering, construction management and environment, safety and sustainability. During this time, you’ll see how our business works and take on tasks that will give you valuable experience all while having a real impact on our organization. You will be able to work full time for ten weeks over the Summer holiday break.

Interns work in multidisciplinary teams and you will have a dedicated supervisor who will be responsible for providing you with a full and busy workload and ensuring we provide you with the best experience possible during your time with us.

  • Exposure to senior management through lunch and learn sessions and Q&As.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities(Attributes required for success):

  • A proactive attitude.

  • Well-developed communication and teamwork abilities.

  • Eagerness to learn and work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.

To be eligible for our internship programme, you must meet the following criteria:

  • At time of application, hold Australian / New Zealand citizenship or Permanent Residency.

  • Applicants must have completed at least one year of under-graduate studies in a relevant degree to the role advertised.

  • Must be able to pass any pre-employment requirements such as a drug screen and background check.

Additional Information

This position has responsibilities that include exposure to changing environmental, construction, and operational conditions, which may include: extensive walking in and around an active construction site, climbing ladders, working at heights from work platforms including scaffolding, and mobile elevating work platforms (MEWPs), use of personal fall arrest equipment, walking and working on uneven surfaces, working in constricted and/or confined spaces, and work in inclement weather. Some lifting may be required. Candidate must be able to use standard issued Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) required for each assigned task (i.e. respirator, harness, life vest, hearing protection, etc.).
