Job Overview: The Intake Specialist assists walk-in clients seeking to access IRC Silver Spring services by conducting eligibility screenings, sharing up-do-date information about programs, connecting eligible clients with IRC services and referring them to external service providers. This position involves working directly with clients in a fast-paced environment while maintaining professional standards and adhering to best practices regarding timely enrollment and referral to appropriate services. This position reports to the Intake and Outreach Coordinator.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Conduct eligibility screenings for walk-in clients including humanitarian parolees, asylees, SIVs, secondary migrant refugees, certified and pre-certified victims of trafficking and anyone seeking immigration legal services.
  • Complete client referrals or enrollment paperwork into programs for which they qualify and refer ineligible clients to community resources such as local departments of social services, shelters, food banks, crisis centers and others as applicable.
  • Participate in meetings, trainings and workshops as requested and coordinated by the IRC and partner agencies.
  • Comply with agency policies, protocols and best practices.
  • May train and lead activities of interns.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Support Intake and Outreach coordinator to maintain detailed, accurate and comprehensive database and spreadsheets of all walk-in clients.

Job Requirements:

  • A college degree in social work or a related field of study or equivalent.
  • The skills and knowledge typically acquired through 1-2 years of relevant work experience at a non-profit agency or other public service environment. Experience in case management or legal services would be an advantage.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and web-based applications (databases, cloud storage, forms).
  • Self-starter with excellent problem-solving skills combined with the proven ability to multi-task, prioritize duties and manage time effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail in work product required.
  • Knowledge of and interest to continue learning about public assistance, legal services and community resources for humanitarian immigrant clients.
  • Experience working in a multicultural environment and with clients who are Limited English Proficient (LEP). Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment.
  • Fluent in English, both spoken and written; bilingual ability in one of the predominant languages (Haitian Creole, Amharic, French) of the local client base is desired.

Working Environment:

  • A combination of standard office environment, remote work and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
  • May require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
