Main purpose

This role seeks to address the increasing need for young people’s involvement in campaigns against injustices, specifically in advocating for accountability in emergencies. The placement of the lnspirator will play a dynamic role that not only focuses on response and recovery but also enhances preparedness. The lnspirator will support the technical capacity of the partner(s) in development, coordination, and delivery of their humanitarian work in line with AAI humanitarian signature and CHS standards while ensuring compliance with SHEA and protection in emergencies. This role will provide technical advisory aimed at strengthening the capacity of SPA2 partners that AAIK works within ASAL and urban informal settlements. This role plays a very significant part in supporting AAIK supporting partners to prepare for, mitigate the impact of, and respond to disasters and crises by providing support, and knowledge, mainstreaming protection, and building long-term capacity. The lnspirator will also be key in assessing accountability in emergencies and working with young people to lead advocacy actions including championing policy reforms.

The role will help to ensure that partners are able to respond to sudden onset emergencies and chronic humanitarian situations, by implementing programmes that integrate recovery into on-going development efforts. The role will also be key in ensuring AAIK partners corporate commitments around climate, gender and localization are realised. The lnspirator will also ensure that we are key in realization of development-humanitarian-peace nexus.
Additionally, the inspirator will play a key role in the deploying youth leadership in emergencies toolkit that aligns with feminist, green, and just transition principles. This strategy aims to have a rooted and impactful influence on policies and initiatives, working closely with key stakeholders, including feminist groups, youth organizations, social movements, and allies.

Required skills and work/volunteer experiences

  • Proven experience working humanitarian work and feminist movements.

  • In-depth understanding of international development-humanitarian-peace nexus encompassing both historical and contemporary debates.

  • Excellent communication skills, capable of effectively engaging diverse audiences and facilitating sharing and learning, including through online platforms.

  • Strong background in supporting community networks through capacity building and mobilization, particularly with youth groups for collective action.

  • Proficiency in utilizing digital and social media tools for delivering webinars.

  • Demonstrated experience in inspiring, mentoring, and supporting young people.

  • Familiarity with participatory approaches to youth organizing and activism, including creative nonviolent advocacy and campaign tools.

  • Experience in grassroots-level youth mobilization and organizing
