The Opportunity

This position is with Abbott Medical Australia. Our medical devices help more than 10,000 people have healthier hearts, improve quality of life for thousands of people living with chronic pain and movement disorders, and liberate more than 500,000 people with diabetes from routine fingersticks.

The Health Economics and Reimbursement (HE&R) Analyst is part of Abbott’s Health Economics & Reimbursement team and will support the execution of reimbursement processes in Australia, focusing on Medical Services Advisory Committee (MSAC) and Prescribed List (PL) submissions. This role ensures smooth collaboration with the local commercial, regulatory, clinical, and government affairs teams to drive operational efficiency. The role also provides technical and health economic support to ensure compliance with Australian reimbursement requirements and alignment with APAC and global market access goals.

Responsibilities

Reimbursement Execution:

Execute MSAC and PL submissions for new and existing products, ensuring adherence to Australian reimbursement and regulatory requirements and timelines.

Monitor local reimbursement barriers and assist in addressing them to achieve timely approvals.

Operational Support:

Develop and manage health economic models (e.g., cost-effectiveness, budget impact, amongst others) to support reimbursement applications.

Ensure operational excellence by managing documentation, budgeting, and other administrative tasks related to reimbursement processes.

Customer and Stakeholder Engagement:

Support engagement of the HE&R team with MSAC, PL Advisory Committees, and other Australian stakeholders to communicate the health economic value of Abbott products.

Collaborate with external health authorities, government bodies, and payers to ensure efficient execution of reimbursement strategies.

Cross-functional Collaboration:

Work closely with local commercial, regulatory, clinical, and government affairs teams to ensure the smooth execution of reimbursement strategies and alignment with market access goals.

Coordinate with APAC and global HE&R teams to ensure local execution aligns with broader strategic goals and provides feedback from the Australian market.

Position Scope:

This role is responsible for executing country-specific reimbursement processes, particularly MSAC and Prescribed List submissions, while supporting the Head of Market Access in day-to-day reimbursement operations and stakeholder engagement.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s degree in health economics, Public Health, Business, or related field with a focus on economic modelling.

Minimum Experience / Training Required:

3-7 years of experience in health economics, reimbursement, or market access, with specific experience in the Australian healthcare system.

Strong understanding of MSAC, PL, and other Australian reimbursement frameworks.

Expertise in cost-effectiveness analyses, budget impact modelling, and other health economic tools.
