Learn more at .The Head of Technology – Discovery will be responsible for the End-to-End information technology strategy and delivery for the Therapeutics Discovery (TD) and Preclinical Sciences and Translational Safety (PSTS) Functions of Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicines Research and Discovery.In this role, the Head of Technology – Discovery will partner across the different drug discovery functions of TD & PSTS to lead the development and operation of information technology products that underpin our molecular invention and pre-clinical sciences capabilities in the pursuit of next generation of Innovative medicines including:
- Drug Discovery Design platforms for Chemical, Protein, Cell Therapeutics and other emerging modalities
- Automation of High Throughput & High Content Laboratory platforms for Molecular Synthesis/Expression and In-Vitro and In-Vivo Molecular profiling
- Integration of computational and AI methods (Machine Learning, Molecular Modelling, Generative AI) to augment drug discovery into scientific workflows.
You will partner with R&D and IT stakeholders to define technology product roadmaps including scope, schedule/timeline, resources, and budget, as well as have end-to-end accountability for the delivery of investments and releases. This role will require education, experience and expertise in drug discovery and associated ways of working on a global scale, project management, portfolio management, analytics, systems integration, and system development a scale of billions of candidate molecule designs. You will focus on innovative and evolving capabilities and talent, for discovery and associated sciences in as part of the Janssen R&D objective of building a world class Discovery Engine lead large global programs and initiatives across the franchise and/or enterprise.Responsibility for both people (direct and/or indirect) as well as systems and projects. Lead a team of about 5 direct reports as a people leader, along with 10 – 20 indirect employees and contractors.· Report on the progress of workstreams/capabilities within scope of responsibility.· Develop a future roadmap for systems or capability areas within areas of responsibility and ensure the technical approaches and capabilities solutions are in-line with technical/business strategy.· Complete understanding and experience working within and leading an Agile development team.· Accountable for the day-to-day operation of Discovery Systems. In partnership with Suppliers and Technology Services, ensuring that all tickets are resolved within SLA and change management processes are followed as defined in change management procedure and platformed is patched and upgraded to supported level.· Manage within the framework of established policies and procedures with accountability for all systems and their enhancements.· Provide evaluation and cost estimation for all Chemistry focused projects, enhancements and roll outs, including understanding of the business’s needs and priorities and provide system expertise.· Manage build, testing and production delivery for all relevant projects, enhancements and roll outs.· Create implementation plans for relevant initiatives including timeline, owner, and key milestones.· Coordinate with business partner’s prioritization of the projects based on business value and risk compliance to maximize ROI.Understand core internal IT products and drive business value by working with Suppliers like Schrodinger, Biovia, Dotmatics, Revvity, Titian, Genedata and other vendors to gain understanding of future capabilities/enhancements and their potential applicability within the Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicines R&D environment.· Understand technology landscape within scope of responsibility, seek internal and external insights to craft technology approach and vision for the market(s)/cluster(s)/region.· Analyze business problems, opportunities, and challenges, factoring in a deep understanding of the technical architecture and the underlying drivers of the business.· Design technical solutions at scale, including system integrations, in partnership with other sub-functions in IT.· Assist in structuring and executing of Proof of Concepts and plans to scale and integrate in the broader system landscape.Requirements:Minimum Education: Degree in Computer Sciences, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or a related discipline. PhD level PreferredRequired Years of Related Experience:A minimum of 15 years IT experience is required with at least 5 in technology management preferred. That majority of experience should be providing technology to support drug discovery or biotechnology stakeholders.Technical Experience:· Working knowledge of drug discovery and associated informatics is required.· Working knowledge of advanced discovery data models and integration solutions is required.· A proven track record of project delivery and business relationship management is required.· Understanding of R&D, particularly small molecule and large molecule discovery processes is required.· Ability to translate business requirements to technology solutions is required.· Strong leadership skills – operate as an independent leader with understanding and appreciation of the global/enterprise context required.· Strong consultative and facilitation skills required.· Strong presentation skills – can speak across various forums and communicate to broad, diverse audience required.Preferred skills:Understanding of various artificial intelligence associated disciplines, such as machine learning, text mining and related disciplines preferred. ·Knowledge of product portfolio management and financial managementAbility to network with information technology and scientific specialist teams and the external industry to bring in groundbreaking technical/business approaches to amplify capabilities.Ability to manage the competing needs for innovation and standardization/process harmonization, frequently influencing business partners to align with standard methodologies.
