Description

AXA is seeking a Head of Personal Injury Claims for our AXA Ireland business.

Reporting directly to the Claims Director, you will oversee a team of 80+ claims handlers based across Dublin and Belfast, managing the settlement of PI claims on an All-Ireland basis (250 million). Your responsibilities will include developing and implementing Republic of Ireland (ROI) and Northern Ireland (NI) PI strategies to ensure cost control and competitive advantage. With a focus on commercial effectiveness, you will create opponent-specific strategies to optimize settlement methods. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in claims management, strong leadership skills, and the ability to drive strategic initiatives.

At AXA we work smart, empowering our people to balance their time between home and the office in a way that works best for them, their team and our customers. You’ll work at least 40% of your week away from home, moving to the majority of your working week from September 2025. Away from home means either attendance at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events.

What you’ll be doing:

  • You will be responsible for building a culture of responsibility, customer focus, and collaboration within our Claims team.
  • Lead a high-performing environment among team leaders and people managers, driving best practices for ROI and PI personal injury claims units.
  • Work closely with other claims functions and support departments to develop optimal settlement strategies and address business performance issues.
  • Manage supplier relationships, implementing quality programs, monitoring external changes in the claim’s environment, and engaging with external insurance bodies to stay ahead of regulatory developments.
  • Contribute to risk management processes and collaborate with the Actuarial and MI teams to maximize data usage for actionable strategies.
  • Manage motor PI claims, ensuring compliance with Solvency II, Group Standards, and other relevant regulations, and promoting standards of compliance within AXA.

Qualifications

  • Ideally 8 years’ experience managing a claims function, with 5 years’ managerial experience.
  • A minimum 3rd level relevant degree, with APA/CIP/MDI/ACII beneficial.
  • Experience in leading and managing a high-performing team.
  • A strong technical background in claims, understanding relevant regulations and legislation.
  • Knowledgeable and well-versed in external market factors impacting personal injury claims.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, and prioritization skills, ensuring timely delivery of objectives.
  • Experienced negotiator with a pragmatic and hands-on approach to problem-solving.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience analysing data to maximize the use of management information (MI) and meet agreed key performance indicators (KPIs).

This role is allocated CF1 role under Fitness & Probity Regime, which means the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced level of background screening requirements. You can find more information on axa.ie/careers.

Please note as we progress through the selection process, we anticipate that interviews may take place prior to Christmas. However, due to various factors, including scheduling, Christmas and the New Year, there is a possibility that the interview process may extend into the new year. We appreciate your understanding and flexibility, and we will continue to keep you updated on any developments and appreciate your patience in advance.

As a precondition of employment for this role, you must be eligible and authorized to work in Ireland and/or the United Kingdom.

This recruitment campaign will be used to support permanent, temporary and/or extension for any upcoming similar positions.
