This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and enthusiastic consultant to join the clinical haematology service based at Tameside Hospital. This post is part of a collaborative venture between The Christie NHS Foundation Trust (CFT) and Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust.This job role is for 10 PAs per week to support the development of haematology services across the southern sector of the Greater Manchester and Cheshire Cancer Network and the delivery of clinical and laboratory haematology at the Tameside site. Flexibility may be considered for those who are unable to work full time due to personal reasons. The haematology department based at Tameside is led by a highly motivated multidisciplinary team who provide an outpatient, day care and inpatient service. The appointment will join the existing team of 14 consultants and at Tameside will complement the two Haematologists, a Clinical Nurse Specialist/Service Manager and Clinical Nurse Specialist.AAC panel date is 01/05/2025Main duties of the jobThe successful post holder will be responsible for providing consultant level support to the development of the service and to implement best practice in haematology. The role will include three outpatient clinics per week, responsibility for outpatients attending the Tameside Macmillan Unit for treatment and provision of specialist input into the care of inpatients at Tameside Hospital.The post holder will have laboratory responsibilities and will be a core member of the Christie Leukaemia/Myeloma and Lymphoma multidisciplinary teams. The appointee will be expected to participate in a shared on-call rota (currently with Stepping Hill Hospital) for out of hours work. Job responsibilitiesThis post is for 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week based at Tameside site. Any consultant who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.This post is part of a collaborative venture between the Christie NHS Foundation Trust (CFT) and Tameside and Glossop Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust (TGH) to support the development of haematology services across the southern sector of the Greater Manchester and Cheshire Cancer Network (GMCCN) and the delivery of clinical and laboratory haematology on the TGH site. The post will be established at the Christie although the clinical sessions will be undertaken at TGH. The post holder will be a core member of the Christie leukaemia/myeloma and lymphoma multidisciplinary teams.The Haematology department based at TGH is run by a highly motivated team providing outpatient, day care and inpatient service to BCSH level 1. At the Christie, the appointment will join the existing team of 14 Consultants and at TGH will complement the two Haematologists, a Clinical Nurse Specialist/Service Manager and Clinical Nurse Specialist. The appointee will be expected to participate a shared on-call rota (currently with Stepping Hill Hospital) for out of hours work. There will be no on-call commitment on the Christie Site.Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential

• FRCP / MRCP or equivalent
• FRCPath or equivalent
• Applicants that are UK trained, must ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview.
• Applicants that are non-UK trained, will be required to show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT

Desirable

• MD/PhD

TRAINING
Essential

• Full and Specialist registration (with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview
• Evidence of training and expertise in clinical and laboratory Haematology

• Experience of recent and current research and or relevant publications.
