The Guinness Open Gate Brewery is the home of experimentation in beer at St. James’s Gate in Dublin City. It is an experimental brewery which dates back over 100 years, and our gates are open for discovery. Guinness Open Gate Brewery is a hidden secret just waiting to be discovered. Visitors are welcomed to our taproom and beer garden to sample experimental beers that will not be found anywhere else! As an Open Gate Brewery Ambassador, you will work in a busy bar environment, welcoming visitors from the four corners of the world on a celebration of Guinness experimentation, where your role is to help visitors celebrate and explore the joy of beer, guiding them through tasting beer, assessing its flavour and quality, and with an ability to describe why it tastes the way it does.

About the Role

This beer savvy candidate will be the day-to-day beer and hospitality lead at the Guinness Open Gate Brewery, assisting the manager in setting a welcoming tone and culture which is distinctly Guinness. 

The position is primarily based in Dublin at the Open Gate Brewery, where you will welcome visitors to explore the joy in making and sharing beer, exploring flavour, beer styles and pairings with our many guests. You may also from time to time be asked to represent Guinness in other markets. Your working hours will be spread across days ,evenings and weekends, interacting face to face with trade representatives, general public and the broader beer community. 

Responsibilities:

  • Day to day lead on visitor experience functions, including bar experience, consumer events, corporate events, brand events, staff lead and scheduling, inventory and control of operating supplies, opening and closing
  • Leading the consumer facing experience on a day to day basis. 
  • Works collaboratively with the GOGB brewery team & guest breweries to manage the delivery and schedule of rotational beer for the bar
  • Is the lead on creating a beer centric culture among the team
  • Assists with building brilliant beer centric experiences for consumers
  • Leading the beer and food experience delivery for GOGB to ensure excellent hospitality and service for guests in a way that supports the Guinness culture
  • Assists the GOGB manager with creating and building welcoming experiences for key stakeholders in the Guinness Brand Teams, GOGB Supply and Brewery Team,
  • Working with on-site colleagues, to deliver full compliance to both statutory and agreed Diageo standards in respect of Health & Safety, Fire Safety, and Environment.
  • Play a leading role in delivering brand immersion and engagement with consumers, key influencers including media and fostering great relationships with hospitality and tourism sector. 
  • Emergency response, crisis management, visitor safety and business continuity management
  • Directly contributes to performance and sales/ per capita targets
  • Owns the development of a strong service and beer culture at the GOGB
  • Provide line manager direction & supervision to team members. 

Role Requirements:

  • At least 18 months hospitality and beer supervisory experience.
  • Able to show good leadership & people skills and a business orientation.
  • Enthusiasm and knowledge for all thing’s beer
  • Be a great communicator, and able to bring the wider teams on the journey of igniting their passion for beer.
  • Flexible with work schedule including weekends, holidays, and evenings
