To this end, NHS Scotland welcomes applications from all sections of society.GP Maternity Locum Required from May 2024Mairches Medical Practice (Galashiels or Hawick)3 days per week, for a period of 6-9 monthsRate of pay £650/dayDue to a period of maternity absence, Mairches Medical Practice is looking to recruit a locum GP, to join our established and expanding team of clinicians. We are a forward thinking and dynamic practice, based across two sites in Scottish Borders; Galashiels and Hawick. We serve a combined population of approx 11,000 patients (5,000 Galashiels, 6,000 Hawick).We are an established GP team of 6 Partners, 1 Salaried GP and 1 long term locum. The position is to cover an absence at our Galashiels site; ideally working a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday each week. However, we do have flexibility in terms of role, work pattern and site and would encourage enquiries from candidates who are keen to work at either or both the Galashiels or Hawick site, or those who may be available to work on alternate days. The start date is from Monday 6th May, but again, we could have some flexibility around this, if a later or earlier start date is required.Our Galashiels site has excellent rail links to Edinburgh, with a journey time of just 50minutes from Waverley station: 31 trains per day and the practice being situated just a 2 minute walk to the train station, make it imminently commutable to the Capital.Hawick, the largest town in Scottish Borders, is situated in an area of outstanding beauty, with spectacular countryside and rural pursuits on the doorstep, yet being only 1 hour by car from Edinburgh, Newcastle and Carlisle.Mairches is the old scots word for Scottish Borders, and this perfectly positioned region affords an excellent quality of life, with its rolling hills, open countryside and picturesque coastline being perfect for those with an interest in walking, cycling or equestrian pursuits.Job specifics:

  • An average of 24 x 15minute appointments per routine consulting day

One “Duty Day” per weekFull workflow optimisation implementation with low document flow to GPsNo GP List to cover as this role relates to a Salaried GP absence· Support of extensive and developed nursing team – ANPs, Minor Ailments Nurse, Specialist Respiratory Nurse, Practice Nurses, HCAs.· Wider health care team of on-site physiotherapist and pharmacist as well as local dedicated primary care mental health team (RENEW).· Supported Duty Team working (ANP and GP), with twice daily educational huddles.· We run an house CPD programme which could be accessed if desired· Medical Student Teaching practice with strong links with the University of Edinburgh, participation in teaching optional· Skilled Practice Manager with developed administrative team carrying out workflow optimisation and signposting· Specialist services including Minor Surgery and Coil clinics as well as full LES involvementInformal enquiries are welcomed, we would be happy to have an initial conversation or arrange a visit to either site.
