Job description

Hartley People Recruitment are seeking a Financial Controller to join our clients finance team in Wicklow.Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the Finance Director in overseeing financial performance and shaping the strategic direction of the finance function.
  • Assist in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
  • Ensure accurate reconciliations and controls over nominal ledger accounts as part of month-end processes.
  • Take full responsibility for managing payroll, supplier payments, and subcontractor finances across the group.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a skilled finance team, driving performance and efficiency.
  • Manage a team of four accounting professionals.
  • Review and authorise payment files via online banking systems.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, including VAT, taxation, and obligations across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Develop annual budgets and oversee short- and long-term cash flow planning.
  • Collaborate with the commercial team to validate cost estimates and pricing structures for projects.
  • Prepare financial data and reports for external auditors as part of the annual audit process.
  • Act as a key liaison with external advisors, including auditors, tax consultants, and global payroll specialists.
  • Align financial planning with business objectives, improve financial systems, and enhance reporting accuracy.
  • Monitor and drive departmental KPIs and monthly financial reporting.

Key Requirements:

  • Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, or ACA)
  • Five years of experience in a comparable finance role.
  • Experience working in a multi-currency and multi-jurisdictional environment
  • Proven track record in leading and developing teams, with strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Commercially astute, results-oriented, and proactive, with a commitment to continuous improvement and ethical standards.
  • High attention to detail, with the ability to analyse complex financial data and translate it into meaningful insights.
  • Strong management, supervisory, and communication abilities.
  • Advanced IT proficiency, particularly in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Highly organised with excellent time management skills.
  • Collaborative team player with a hands-on approach.
  • Valid driver’s licence.
