The senior financial accountant will report to the Mercer Ireland Head of Finance within the MMC Controllership team in Ireland. The role is mainly focussed on Mercer’s pension, health and career administration and consulting business segment and will be responsible for preparing financial information to ensure that the Company’s internal and external reporting requirements are met. The successful candidate should have a proactive, flexible and ‘can do’ style of working and a high level of attention to detail.

We will rely on you to:

  • Complete the monthly and annual statutory financial statements and quarterly Board finance packs.
  • Monitor the month end close process and liaise with the Offshore GL teams as required to ensure month end timetable is adhered to.
  • Review of income and expenses and provide commentary on material variances as required.
  • Review general ledger accounts and balance sheet reconciliations and provide explanations on variances as required.
  • Complete monthly and quarterly regulatory returns to submit to the Central Bank of Ireland.
  • Lease with auditors and follow up on requests as required to ensure a smooth audit process Assist with tax returns such as Corporation Tax, VAT and 46G tax returns.
  • Monitor FX exposure on Balance Sheet with assistance from the Offshore team
  • Support the Head of Finance in managing stakeholder expectations and queries from auditors (external and internal), tax advisors (external and internal), legal, compliance and business colleagues.
  • Work as part of the broader finance team, and a commitment to achieving deadlines and goals as set out by management and business leaders.
  • Provide support on active management of other group companies as required.
  • Support the finance function with any strategic initiatives, board requirements, risk assessments, ICAAP requirements, process improvements and ad hoc projects as required.
  • Understand and provide support in implementing accounting standard changes in local and US GAAP.
  • Provide support in continuously identifying more efficient and effective ways of operating.
  • Ensure compliance with corporate policies, local/US GAAP and local statutory regulations (as applicable) regarding financial matters.

What you will need to have:

  • University degree in finance, accounting, or economics with Professional Accounting Qualification such as ACA, ACCA, CIMA.
  • 5+ years of experience in Finance and/ or Accounting.
  • Ability to prioritise multiple demands and guide stakeholders to focus on the key issues.
  • Excellent communication skills with an ability to make complex issues simple.
  • End to end problem solver who can proactively anticipate, identify and resolve.
  • Willingness to get into the details to understand the issues but retaining the ability to see the big picture.
  • Microsoft Excel to a high standard; Oracle reporting user experience desirable.
